I did have the Miami to New York outboard record, I did it in a 24' Pantera w/ 2 of the "state of the art" Mercury 2.4's
That was a looong time ago August 18, 1978. It took 42hrs because of a few problems I had on the way BUT I made it on my own and a lot of heart!
I love it when people knock the 24/7 hulls, I KNOW it is a great small boat and very seaworthy (1,250 miles or so I figured some 31 years ago,
No mapquest then) I had an RDF and 2 compasses and "most" of the charts. "NO GPS"
Now you know the rest of the story...........

That was probably the most fun I ever had in the boat biz!!!
But I have one better that I will do b4 I'm gone.
"Bermuda to New York" on the 4th of July.
I have planned that trip in my mind for a lot of years, the 41' pantera will be perfect for that record.
There is also the Key West to Cuba and back, Rocky Aoki (Benihana) did it a while back, he was pretty fast I forget the et for that run, maybe somebody knows???

"Anyone looking for a new trophy? Motorboating Magazine has placed the Charles F. Chapman Trophy into competition. It will be awarded to any motorboat owner who runs his boat from Miami to New York faster than Sam Griffith did with his Bertram rig last year.
Those who try, but fail to improve on Griffith's mark, will get certificates.
Chapman is the boatman who navigated for Gar Wood on the record-breaking 1921 Miami-New York trip. No one did it faster until Griffith came along 41 years later."

.....seems to me that, foot for foot, pound for pound, Pepe still holds the record.....BIG difference between making one of those runs with today's technology and electronics, in a 40'-50' boat, and what Pepe did over thirty years ago without the technology in a 24x7.......BIG COJONES dude..........no one is topping that.......
