As part of the clean up for something like that they have to provide you with personal ID monitoring for some set time at their expense, usually about 2 years, check with consumer affairs in your county/state.

Theoretically Experian should catch any hinky activity and warn you. The other monitoring services come in handy if it happens because they will work on your behalf to mitigate the damage.

Put a fraud alert on your credit report with all three bureaus, it will make it harder for anyone to open a new acct/line of credit.

8 years ago I was watching the Sopranos and a bank called me at home asking to finish the loan app they were working on. I did just buy a new house but not with this bank. I was leary of the bank call so I asked for the fraud dept. Turned out it was for a 50K home equity loan on my old house and they had my ss# but transposed two numbers. The bank said the loan was approved but they were questioning the error in the ss#....

Any of the monitor services are fine. You can and should notify the credit bureau's to put a not on your bureau that you have to be contacted at 609-###_#### before credit is issued.I believe it will stay on there for one year.
