Legal Marijuana

it does take much less time to make alcohol than grow pot too....

is it me or does anyone else see the irony in the fact that California has done damn near everything but make smoking cigarettes completely illegal (theres beachs you cant smoke on, some cities you cant smoke walking down the sidewalk, you have to smoke outside and so many feet away from a doorway etc) but is now activly pursuing making it legal to smoke pot.

next will be the packaging, how big of a box do you have to put a half once of pot in so that you can include 347 different warning labels?

warning smoking pot may lead to cancer

warning smoking pot may lead to intoxication

warning smoking pot may lead to confusion

warning smoking pot may cause dizziness

warning smoking pot may lead to muchies and weight gain

warning smoking pot may lead to excessive watching of the cartoon network

warning do not operate a motor vehicle while using this product

warning do not operate machineary while using this product

warning use of this product may cause a chocking hazzard

warning smoking pot may lead to dry mouth

warning smoking pot may lead to bloodshot eyes

warning smoking pot may lead to respiratory irritation

warning smoking pot may lead to coughing

warning smoking pot may lead to decreased energy

warning smoking pot may lead to decreased motivation

warning smoking pot may lead to inappropriate laughter

warning smoking pot may agravate preexisiting psychological problems

warning smoking pot may lead to drowsiness

warning smoking pot may lead to birth defects

warning smoking pot may cause headaches

warning smoking pot may harm the ozone layer

warning smoking pot may lead to increased CO2 levels

how are you going to fit all of those warning labels on something this big??

At the risk of pissing off all the Bush lovers and the Obama haters...

This would never happen if Bush was still the persident. Now that Obama is in office, you will see more and more of this happening.

just my two-cents...

I would say that a while a significant majority of SOS is conservative in their politics I think that (specualtion) applies primarily to fiscal issues and that many here have a more liberal view on social issues. I for one think there can be some balance in that regard.

As far as legalizing marijuana...why not. The where you can use it issues can be easily regulated.

 Priceless :)

The U.S. has plenty of people standing around not doing a goddamned thing. Do we really need more of them?

If we legalize pot, what's next? Coke? It doesn't hurt anyone either. And in the spirit of personal freedom, lets toss opiates in there too.

To be honest, I think they should legalize all that $hit. Let 'em have it. Lots of them won't make it through the weekend and there will be fewer people stripping copper pipes out of houses next week. As self-resolving issue!

I'm all for personal freedom, but I'm tired of footing the bill for other people.

I agree, as long as we have a decent test for making sure the guy in the other boat isn't snorting, smoking, shooting, or drinking.

Except the dopers never actually have any money :D Can you see some dude standing at the 7-11 counter trying to trade a puka shell ncklace to Abdul for a couple of joints :D

I dont know Ted . . . apparently they have enough to make it Cali's biggest cash crop. :D

Does that mean you would let Stecz marry his boy toy?

.

A couple of thoughts on this... I'm calling bullsh*t on it being CA's largest crop. I know that generally when LE pulls a bust, the weights and thus cash values are skewed because the will often include "non-deliverable" portions of the plants (stems and leaves) rather than the marketable buds of the plants. Additonally the "valuation" is extrapolated from arbitrary and wholly unverifyable multiples.

Second, I'm a civil libertarian (with more "conservative economic policies and hawkish foreign policies) so I have no problem with anyone doing anything that doesn't materially impair the rights of others... However, I firmly believe the we are in a painfully small minority.

There a vast groups of the population of this country that don't differentiate between MJ and heroin... In their minds, they are both Drugs and Drugs are Evil. Not bad for you, not socially innapropriate, but Evil... Fundamentally, something unholy and spawned by the "great deceiver" or what have you. And I think its going to be a hard sell to convince the "moral majority" to sell you their values system in the name of improving the economy (no matter how wrongheaded and absurd we may perceive that value system to be).

Additionally, when Regan labelled the US anti-drug policy "the war on drugs" he put our goverment in a position wherein any change in policy would effective be seen as defeat (at the hands of Drugs, I assume) in the war on drugs. And last I checked, the US isn't in the business of losing wars...

And finally, as a parting shot, I don't see the alcohol and tobacco industries sitting around and allowing this to roll through. Massive amounts of lobbying dollars will be spent to prop up thing like that hoary old "gateway drug" nonsense in an effort to protect market share and eliminate the competition.

Personally, I think its a good idea, but I've already got a $100 bet against it and I'll believe it when I see it...

to add more insult to it, look at the way the attorneys went after tobacco and alcohol for people doing stupid stuff " I read that it would give me cancer if I smoked since I was 7, now that I'm 50 and on oxygen, they shouldnt have made it so easy...give me money" or the way people say, "its the bartenders fault I drank too much "

the drug war is a multi-billion dollar industry,(much like save the manatee's) they ain't gonna let that money go easily. there was a book out a few years back called "swordfish" it was mostly about infighting for money.

I know for a fact pot was KY's number 1 cash crop for a long time.... light years ahead of tobacco..

How do "they" prove that? Since the production is illicit and there isn't any accurate way to identify the actual amount produced, nor the actual transaction values, I don't see how an extrapolation based on "assumed" street value and "assumed" quantities produced can ever be anything more than a (nearly) arbitrary estimate. And an estimate that's easily manipulated by the user of the statistics.

You'll note that in the article Clay posted, if you read carefully, the statistics of legal farm goods were verified by the dept. of agriculture (or whomever) and although the it was drafted to infer that the marihuana statistics were derived from the same source, they weren't.

Like I said, I'm all for people being able to do whatever the F they want within the boundaries of human decency, but we really need to temper idealism with an effective "bullsh*t filter"...

a few years back when they did the massive flyover eradication stuff the siezed and burned values exceeded the tobacco auction revenues... it's been a few years but there's a LOT of pot in them there hills...

EXACTLY my point.
Make it legal, but give you no place to smoke it.

Guns are legal, but ammunition soon won't be.

Don't worry, they now have the new religion of "Global Warming" to do this. Wait, we are cooling now so it is "climate change".

It is always about the $$$$

Im all for legalizing marijuana. Its a no brainer for reasons you guys posted above, not to mention its been proven to be safer than alcohol and that can be backed up with facts.
