Phelps is the only guy that bears any burden of responsibility for his own behavior. He chose a life of celebrity by posing for the pictures, doing all those interviews and taking those mammoth checks for doing product endorsements. He knew the deal up front and he made his choices.

Whats the big deal? i mean who really cares other than conversation. When you look at sports stars like bonds, canseco, McGuire, Joyner...etc. Mickey mantle and babe Ruth were alcoholics. Pete rose gambling addiction. Lyle alzado, hulk hogan, Chris Benoit...then on the entertainment side, you have people like Robert downy,Britney, charlie sheen, Amy winehouse, Steven Adler... Thomas Jefferson liked the slave women, JFK and his brother shared Marilyn every one of these persons has some sort of substnce or mental addiction...in the big scope of things is it really an issue.
I'm no ones moral compass by any means, but society today thrives on people destroying themselves..like don Henley said, give us dirty laundry..
