I'm with you Daredevil. I'd like nothing more than the see us walk away from the crazy nation-building experiment in Iraq (and Afghanistan) and focus our government spending on us. If they are going to spend it, spend it on ourselves.

Giving money to people overseas shoul dbe just as enraging as giving it to illegals within our borders.

I agree and disagree. I agree I'm not that interested in making the lifestyle of the everyday Afghan opium poppy farmer any more comfortable. But at the same time, if we'd have spent a little time and a tiny sum of money on economic and infrastructure development back in the early 80's... right after we spend billions helping them kick the Soviets out, there's a good chance we wouldn't be there today.

We don't spend those dollars because we're generous as a nation. We spend taxpayer dollars over there to buy influence. Individuals make contributions for the betterment of their society solely for that betterment. If the U.S. government is going to build schools, it's going to be so they can be taught something that helps our interests. You know how I'm certain of this? Look at how concerned we are over sub-Saharan Africa. Too bad they don't have oil.

Our entire foreign policy in that region has been terribly short-sighted and flawed. It goes even further back to the people that dumped it in our laps- the Brits.
