Just curious about SOS numbers

Not sure who else misses that, but I am guessing those of you that started SOS do, as it has to be more than just the censoring on the other site that drove you here?

It's actually the noncensorship that drives "important" members away, like manufacturers, historic racers, etc. A few bad apples making negative comments toward these guys will drive them away if it's not dealt with swiftly. They are more important to these forums than someones 3rd or 4th hand story or agenda in the long term. Pick up an Enquirer if you like loosely reported "news".

Some people have no respect, or anything better to do than be nosey and want to read controversy regardless if it's true. Everyone gets mad when threads designed with a negative agenda get deleted, but if they aren't done away with you will soon find the site filled with these type of members, and no one credible to be found.

You have the half that complain about wanting no censorship on the site and loads of uninformed gossip, vs, the half that want to learn more about offshore boating from the icon's that started it and people who create the boats. The 2nd half will deteriorate quickly if the 1st half aren't kept in check.

You can easily tell by looking at the views and posts to a negative thread, which usually are big numbers, vs the good natured posts about a good experience that barely make it 2 pages. :banghead:

Brandon makes a very valid point. I think by being more selective on our editing and having a group effort (and believe me it's a diverse group), we can do a better job, not over censoring but also not letting the crooks and liars slide under the radar (Fred Cecil, etc.)

I agree with you there 100% B! (It just seemed that the hot button over there was censorship, of all kinds... good, bad or ugly). I guess my point was that way-back-when, with a smaller number of us (over "there") it was different, even if we hadn't met in person, we had mutual respect for each other, for Steve and the sport. And if we had met, it just made it that much more enjoyable and you knew who you were dealing with. Unfortunately we seem to live in a society that thrives on, "if it bleeds, it leads" - and yes, it infected that site. I'm all for totally keeping the BS in check, squashing the false rumors and if your just there to stir the pot - telling someone to go find another pot. And when it goes from a hobby to business - yeah, you need that more than ever...

Who knows what will happen here, but I'll do my best to contribute positively, enjoy the stories & pics (and videos - nice job BTW on that one you shot!) just like always, and see what happens. At the end of the day - I still met some great people because of (that) forum, and I'm sure I'll have the chance to meet more because of this one!?

Cheers -
Mark.

Glad you enjoyed the video Mark! It was sure fun to make. I completely get your point for sure, and I don't like censorship as a whole either. Unfortunately, not everyone has the self control, or tact, to use the privledge of posting their opinions without intending to do harm to someone else. It sucks, but it's reality. The internet is THE WORST breeding ground for it since people don't have to be responsible for the comments or harm they inflict.

I've made SO many great friends on these forums over the years too, and have done many events that I otherwise wouldn't have known about without these places. That's what I get out of surfing them.

This one looks great (which is important too), and has loads of potential already being taken advantage of. They can write their own constitution of sorts, and with having some sort of relationship with so many members already, it will be far easier to police the content without catching hell from all angles.

Sweet! :sifone:
