insulation question

I'm finishing off part my pole barn into a insulated heated shop. What would be the best route to go for insulation? Blown in, foam board, standard roll home insulation??

What is the outside finish? Wood, metal....

Outside is metal, inside walls will either be getting finished off with OSB, or metal siding. Most lilkey OSB since I will be using this as an occasional blast and paint booth.

If the outside walls are metal, they will not breath. So, condensation will form some, not a lot, but some.

The best, the spray on expandable foam. May be the most expensive currently unless you know someone out of work now, but definitely the best by far for that application.

Think of your boat flotation. Closed cell, water/moisture proof, great insulating qualities, great soundproofing qualities, etc.

What are you doing with the roof/ceiling?

You do NOT want to use roll out insulation it will mold up even if you try and put up a vapor barrier. I would go spray foam or rigid foam. It is going to cost you up front but in the long run it will save you big time on heating and cooling.

I'm with these guys. If you can put up the money now, have someone install the spray foam. In my opinion it's the best option.

This is going to be a temporary deal, the building itself is 52X80, 12 of the 52ft. is currently outdoor leanto with a 12'ceeling. A relatively cheap and easy solution to my problem is going to be slab, insulate and heat this 12x80 area (gives a whole new meaning to the phrase (MAN CAVE). In a few years the rest of the building is going to get finished. I dont really want to pay for top notch insulation for a 12x80 wall thats going to be deystroyed in a few years.

HAve a picture of the comstruction from the inside? To do it cheaper, and still survive, you can run the 1" exteriot grade foam board, then 6" batt, then your inside wall. That depends on the construction though. And you'll have to tape or wrap the seams.

Also need to kow what you are gonna do with the ceiling, and how that is currently built. Moisture on the inside of steel walls and ceiling is your killer.

I am having a 40 x 80 built and thinking about 1 1/2" spray foam on the walls and 6" batts before sheet rock. Opinions? Vapor barrier?

Thats sort of what Im leaning towards, it seems like it would be easily reusable when I pull the wall down in a few years and finish off the rest of the building.

You will still need to put something between it and the metal as an additional barrier. That plastic supposedly breathes. I have no idea how.
