I did not know this. Are they the first, and therefore only, state with a requirement like this for someone over 18?
Virginia's boater education requirement hits an important milestone on July 1.
The date marks full implementation of boater education requirements for personal watercraft operators, and also continues expanding the field of boaters who must meet the mandate
Starting July 1, boaters 30 and under who are operating a craft powered by a 10 horsepower or larger engine must have completed an authorized boating education course.
The requirement has been phased in for several years for personal watercraft operators meeting certain age requirements.
Last July marked the first requirement for boaters, with those 20 and younger having to meet the requirements.
Phasing in the requirements has helped the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries handle the expected increase in the volume of students.
