seriously Johnny if we were closer I would give Ian a few hours off for good behavior to help out
I know there are a lot of people here that feel you pain. I think with so many threads about the people with the cool boats like the guys on E Dock we start to loose perspective and think that most everyone on these boards has a ton of money to burn on boats and engines.
That is not the case at all. I see you have to travel a long time to work, I assume it's not possible to live closer, but if you could I would surely try. There is no place that I would think is worth driving 5 hours a day to live at. I am sure you are exhausted, if possible at least see if you could throw someone you work with a few bucks to let you bunk at their place once or twice a week. I know you want to be home, but the stress is probably not making you the greatest company anyway.
These are a few things that I would suggest.
1. Take a breather from the boat project, the stress is not worth it.
2. If you are not already, get on the west coast boat sites, and observe a while to see who the people are in your area that know boats and engines, and see if you can get advice there.
3. Do you know people in your area that have go fasts, if not try to make some friends with them, join a club if your area has one. I bet if you throw some gas money their way you can ride with them. I am always amazed to see how many people take their boat out alone or with one person. I know with us we welcome the company, plus it's nice to have help with docking, launching, and gas money. We belong to a Lake Erie offshore club and with the economy turning sour a lot of members have either sold their boat or not put it in the water this year. Most of those members are on a boat as often as they like, some have even told me they are boating more this year since they are not worrying about their boat. They are riding with other members but not freeloading since they always pitch in for gas and buy drinks and so forth. It's a win win for both boat owner and rider. I know that most of you guys would rather be in your own boat, but riding with someone else beats the alternative of just reading about it on line.
Good luck to you
