I need the bottom end of my small blocks redone heads are good and the cam is good block has already been punched out 30 over is the block needs to be honed out and better piston put in and rings and so on then put back together How much should all this cost. thanks in advance

My local machine shop refreshed both of my short blocks for right a $1000. I got them out and tore them down and dropped them off. Picked them up a week later and reassybled eveything.

Are you looking for him to completely assemble after ( ie everything except the carb) or are you looking just to have him do the bottom end for you and then you put the cam, heads, timing chain, etc on?

Torque plate bore & hone is about $200. Balance a new rotating assy is about $150. Recon rods with good bolts- about $200. You could beam-grind and polish the rods yourself. Blower pistons, rings bearings, gasket set- about $850. I'd probably want to do a light pass on the decks- $100. new timing chain $100, same for a good oil pump. magnaflux- another $100.

You can go cheap or use lesser stuff, but why take a chance?
