It's heavy...almost as much as a SSM III. I hated putting those suckers on....especially with the floppy u-joints. I shipped an upper I had laying around once and I think it was near 100-120 lbs.
Scotti, The bravoIII has much more steal in it. The TRS has bigger cases and less internal parts. I can't prove it but, I am willing to bet the BIII weighs more.
Jimmy, I don't know if they changed the design but how about the old OMC drives.... The rubber bellows section was smaller than the u-joint socket so you had to use a screw driver or anything lying around to swist the u-joint assembly thru the rubber.... God forbid there was a nick/gouge in the rubber because it made it even more of a PITA!!!
The first week of my marine career the service manager thought it would be entertaining to send me out there to put two OMC's on a bayliner... I struggled with the f'ing thing for about an hour until I went up into the shop (ego was shot) and told them I couldn't get it on.... Eddie, my mentor came out and got it on in a second.. I felt like a jackazz but I guess they wanted me to learn the hard way!
Can they safely be lifted by the eye in the top cap? Just seems like a lot of dead weight for such a thin peice. Also do they hang somewhat straight by the cap, or is the CG off center?
