Houston Texas

Was transferred from Florida to Memphis (YUCK!) but now I find myself getting transferred yet again to Houston Texas.

What is the boating like in the area? I am thinking Kemah? I need to be close to the Airport (KIAH) and want to find a nice Marina for my 38KV Scarab and possibly a 43' Portofino to live aboard.

Any ideas or suggestions.

Its -2 outside, I miss FLORIDA.

Clear Lake Marine Center is a good place for the Sacarab. Most of the local go-fasts are here. South Shore is great for the cruiser. The boating is coming back after hurricane Ike. Join Topps of Clear Lake if you want a good club. Give me a PM or e-mail and I can fill you in.

South shore Harbor would be a good choice for a live aboard, however the drive to IAH is 50 miles and is going to be an hour and a half drive most of the time.

Houston Yacht Club also caters to live-aboards and that is as close as you will get to IAH on Galveston Bay, it's about 40 miles and once the Eastern section of Beltway 8 tollroad is complete wont be too bad of a drive.

Lake Houston 12 miles to the East really doesn't have the room for a go-fast but it does have some nice waterfront properties.

Lake Conroe is 43 miles North and has plenty of go-fasts.

First choice is to live aboard my boat. Dont want to buy a cheap house yet....after renting my home out in Florida (kinda shy about buying another home)

Keep the advice coming!!!

Mve close to Clay. Be him for a friendship.

Offer an obscene amount to rent a room. Then remove all internal locks on doors. Small investment in nanny-cams would be good.

I would check with South Shore first but last time I talked to them they did not allow you to "live aboard". There are a few other marinas that do allow full timers such as Boardwalk marina. I would call a few and talk......

I think you are correct.
I had a business associate ask and they were turned down.

It was about a year ago when I checked with them. Maybe it has changed since then. We stay on our boat ~5 nights a week so we ended up at the Boardwalk Marina. The marina doesn't hold a candle to South Shore but it is close to alot of activities......LF

I think Blue Dolphin still allows live aboards - they did when I was on one ......... but that was 10 yrs ago.... or longer ... holy chit I'm getin old....
