House passes health care bill

I had the misfortune of having to accompany a friend and his son to a level1 trauma care center in Luton in the UK. His son had passed out from binge drinking and got his stomach pumped for his efforts.

Whilst there the only people I saw were bleeding or seriously ill, they were quickly triaged and treated in order of need.

In a Houston emergency room you may see 3/4 of the people in no apparent distress waiting in the knowledge that they wont be refused treatment regardless their ability to pay.

There is no doubt reform is needed, on a lot of the system, but government takeover is not the answer.

So now you get to pay for these same people to be able to go to your health care provider and get the same treatment and put you in the back of the line there as well. Last time I cut my fingure open on a job site I was in the room getting stitches in less then 15 min.

I was talking to some one the other day and they run an ambulance company dispatch. They said that they have this one lady that keeps calling them for an emergency, they take her to the hospital and then she refuses service and walks across the road to her friends house. She is using the ambulance as a freeking taxi service! I say after the first time she should be on her own. That is how you fix leaches on society you cut them off. You want to see a lot of capable people start to work, cut off their welfare!

Prove me wrong then. What country do you go to get your health care?

Bubba

What does my health care have to do with your inane quote?

If they pass this the Deocrats will either seal their own fate when it crashes and burns like it has in every other country, and/or will make sure they stay in power because so many people will be on the gov. tit that they will never vote them out.

You just pull stuff out of your azz and expect us to believe anything you say?

Do some friggin research and educate yourself.

It feels like the wingnuts LIKE what the insurance companies are doing to us.

At a cost to working taxpayers of 1.2 trillion dollars over ten years. After ten years, then what? Stick it to the working man again?

I can't even imagine 1.2 trillion dollars. Thats 1,200 billion dollars. Or 1,200,000 million dollars.

All out of our pockets. Just sickening.

No cost to the uninsured brother besides his employment taxes, insured has to pay his premium and his co-pay.

Exactly what it boils down to. Free to the bottom dwellers who refuse to make insuring themselves a priority. Don't give me that crap about not being able to afford it. You can get very good insurance for what you pay for your cell phone and internet/cable TV every month.

But hey, why do that when you can force someone else to pay the bill?

If it is all about the "uninsured" (even though 50% of those are by shoice), just buy the bloodsuckers their insurance. That will cost 1/20th of what this plan will ultimately cost. :(

Oh and in Europe, Their income taxes are brutal. Even for the working Joe. Mostly to support their welfare state.

And it has been quoted to be 1/20th of that to just by the "uninsured" private insurance.

I have done my research have you. How many people come from Canada to the US for surgeries and health care? How many go the other way? How much are the taxes in Canada? How much are they in every other coutry that has socialized health care? How well has the gov. done with Medicare/Medicade? How are Medicare/Medicades financials? So maybe crash and burn was the wrong choice of words, would you prefer sucking?

so, instead of taxes that subsidize actual health care, you prefer our current system of shoveling money directly to the insurance companies?

because they have shown that they really, really do have our best interests in mind.

The problem is that this is going to be taxes that subsidize not my health care but other peoples health care. Do you know anyone on wealfare? I do, and and it is a disgrace what they get away with. Why should I feel ANY desire to help people that do not want to help themselves? However, to answer your question, I have NEVER seen gov. do anything more efficiently then it could be done by a private company. Do you know anyone that works for the Gov? What my brothers girlfriend goes through is a disgrace. She tries to do extra work and by the time she gets done with all the paper work to be allowed to help out other people at work it is to late so more ofthen then not her time is waisted. Insurance is betting the odds plain and simple. I don't hear you *****ing about your high cost of home owners insurance that you pay because you live in Florida. It is more expensive in Floriday because the risk is higher. If insurance comany's were making money hand over fist you better beleive that other companies would be opening up all over the place. We (my wife and I) own health insurance and I am fine with what I pay, and I am very happy with the service that I get. Don't think that insurance has been working on free market either. In Maine you can only choose between 3 or 4 companies. If they opened up to be able to buy across state lines your insurance would drop drastically.

Is this plan any good if I am currently paying say 5000 dollars for my medical but then my taxes go up by 10000 to cover the costs of this plan how am I saving money? They can not even figure out how to cover the cost of this thing over the short term billing us with higher taxes BEFORE it even goes into effect then spreading out the money that they draw with higher taxes before the plan starts to cover the short fallings over the next few years. Well what will they do when that money runs out? TAX US MORE!

The same thing out here. Our leftist government came up with so many mandates for the insurers, 90% left, leaving us with 4.

But hey, it is now mandated that all insurance companies provide coverage for massage therapy and acupuncture. Damn glad I have those in my benefit plan. :cuss:

I got a headache:

Option 1 call 911 = seen right away, free to see a Doctor and free aspirin

Option 2 = go to 7-11 and paying $15 for a bottle of Advil

Gotta chance that system!

ps- raise your hand if you want to be a Doctor once the Feds run health care.

imagine the hospital being more like the DMV

so you're saying if someone with a knife wound goes to the ER they're going to have to take a number and wait till they call them? then make sure all their paperwork is filled out, and if its not, sent back out to complete it correctly and get a new number? hahah i agree, this new health care thing is going to be real bad for us.

actually there are quite a few countries that have a longer life expectancy, less socomial infection rates, less infant mortality, and less surgical complication rates, etc. than the US....

And every one of those results have been tied to the obesity and drug use in the US vs other countries.

From what I have seen is that this has a LOT in common with what we have in MA. Guess what happened in MA? If you guessed bankrupt you guessed correct. So they are trying to save money by cutting out people from the plan. Not sure if that is any better then being denied for pre existing?

Very true. I don't remember this level of discontent when Mitt was blowing his horn about one of the worst failures in US health care history.

:sifone:

Predictions were it would fail because of excess costs and waste at the time. They were right.....
