Health care costs are out of control. Insurance costs too much for many Americans.

I know! Let's levy a tax on the already too expensive insurance plans!

House Democrats considering insurance tax

The House Democratic plan calls for raising income taxes on upper-income people to pay for covering the uninsured. Baucus has instead proposed a tax on high-cost insurance plans worth more than $8,000 for an individual policy and $21,000 for family coverage.

Proponents of the insurance tax, which Obama has endorsed, say it would help to lower health care costs by encouraging people to become more cost-conscious health care consumers.

Some of the high-cost plans are so expensive because they come with no co-payments or deductibles, and cover every dollar spent for health care. Not all of them provide such "Cadillac" benefits, however. Some are very expensive because they're sold to companies with older employees, or workers in high-risk occupations.

Labor unions say they've given up higher pay to secure better health care benefits that they're determined to hang on to. Insurers are likely to try to pass on the cost of the tax through higher premiums.

What's going to happen is "upper-income people" are going to start doing what a couple of my buddies have done... Drop their health insurance to the bottom rung available from their companies and then use a "concierge" service with their doctor... AKA pay cash for routine medical services. Funny thing, none of them have to wait two months to see their doctor either.

How else do you expect to pay for the coverage for those who will not pay for their own? Remember, the poor already have medicaid.

It absolutely will come from those who already pay their way. My prediction is that it will eventually morph into an additional payroll tax of 15-20% with no limit on income as is now in place with S.S. and medicaid/medicare.:cuss:

and at that point everyone that is employed by me becomes sub contract. F em, the dems in congress are busting the backs of people that have built business's. I will then start offering my clients discounts for paying cash.
