There was a guy on OSO (and probably a member here) that sold them for less than you usually see them advertised. I bought mine from him but can't remember the name
there is a thread on the other site apparently the company that built them for Honda is now selling an identical unit under a different name which I don't recall. They were somewhat cheaper.

I remember seeing some knock-offs that looked exactly like the Honda...I didn't look closely but I noticed they did not have the "eco-mode" that drops the rpm (and noise) when the load is not there....This feature also extends fuel run time greatly.
I love my Yamaha products- their new 2K unit MIGHT be a better option for Ilmordude.
The new yamaha 2K genny is awesome, and if never paralleling may be the one to get.
The only problems are that there arent many parts for it yet, and it doesnt have an easy way to pair 2 up for parallel running like the Hondas do with the "companion" model.
It does have a cast iron sleeve, a true fuel petcock - and a gas gauge however, all features the honda lacks.
I currently have 3 gennies.
a Honda 2K
a yamaha 3000iseb (with boost tech)- awesome generator
an onan 4K
My dad has the 2000 generac on this page. It looks very similar to the honda and is just as quiet, but about half the price. The honeywell looks pretty nice in person too but I haven't heard it run. http://www.ruralking.com/tools.html?cat=394&order=price&dir=asc
