Hitch for 08 Dodge 3500

Are you looking for weight dist or dead weight?
That would be the highest rating out there but you will use either a 2 1/2 draw bar or maybe a 3". Draw-tite makes one also. If you need a price pm me and I'll give you my best price for one.

reese class 5... class 5 is the only way to go.. the only way to go..... pulling some heavy weughts there...

What is the highest rating I can get with a 2" draw bar? The boat (36' apache w/bravos on a steel trailer) is the heaviest thing I plan on towing.

Thanks

10,000 lbs is the most common. I have seen some 12,LBS. Look on the hitch for weight carrying and the the draw bar and ball. Most of the pintle/ball combos will go to 14,000 lbs.

We deal with towing every day in the RV business. My advice is always the same. “Just enough” is NEVER enough. But to much is ALWAYS enough! :lurk5:

how much is the rating from the factory? I was told mine is fine for 15k?
My Factory receiver is 12,000lb on an 08 Dodge 3500 ( Don't you love they rate it to pull 17k properly equipped and put a 12,000lb hitch on it). I can get a 12,000 ball and hitch at local trailer place that will slide in there but I would still be about 1500 lbs shy of what the load weighs (with a 1/4 tank of fuel in the boat).

Looks like I will need to go for the titan or similar. The issue is I pull other smaller stuff 1-3k range trailers (2" balls generally). Can you get something so that your 2 1/2 receiver will accept a 2" tow bar (hitch) for the balls and hitch's that I would use with the smaller trailers. Maybe like a sleeve that slides in there or something?

I believe that the sleeves really cut the capacity down.I have seen a few hitches with dual receiver openings might be another hitch mounted under
You are right in changing my hitch was on for all of two weeks when I bought my dually.Factory hitches are light wait till you change it and you see the weight difference in the hitches

They make a sleeve that slides in the 2.5 reciever to down size it to 2". In fact the GM HD trucks come with the Class 5 from the factory, and the sleeve comes with it also. I would be comforatable using one for a trailer 5k or less no problem.

Ended up with the Titan 18k with 2k tongue wt capacities. Big thanks to Scott C (I owe ya some drinks when you make it to LOTO) who helped educate me to my options. I ended with an online retailer that had it for $309 tax and shipping included. Thanks for everyones input, I am legal at last:26:
