GULFPORT, FL -- Some of the industry's fastest speed boats will hit the waves of Boca Ciega Bay March 30-31.
Grand Prix of Gulfport LLC is producing the third annual Grand Prix of Gulfport featuring F150, SST45, Jersey speed skiffs and a boat show Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Shore Boulevard between 58th Street South and 54th Street South.
The race boats, a display of pleasure boats and boating vendors will be based at the Gulfport Recreation Center. Beach Boulevard South will serve as the main entrance and a parking shuttle drop-off and pick-up area for the free public event.
In addition to the races starting at 9 a.m., there will be jet ski freestyle shows each day and a kids' remote-controlled boat race on Saturday at 9 a.m. with kids from PAL, sponsored by Caddy's Gulfport and Winn-Dixie.
Sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association, the heated up-close racing action will commence on the Boca Ciega Bay area of the municipal beach. Viewing areas will be located on the Williams Pier, Veterans Park, Gulfport Beach and Shore Boulevard South.
The event will conclude on Sunday evening after two full days of racing action with award presentations. Proceeds will benefit the Michael J. Yakes Foundation, a local nonprofit organization that helps underprivileged children and seniors in the Gulfport area.
City of Gulfport downtown parking is always free and open to the public but is limited.
Event Connections, a free shuttle service, will operate between the off-site parking locations for the duration of the Grand Prix event.
