GPS for water and land.

Does anyone have a GPS that works on land and sea that they recommend?

At work, due to all the extensive travel, I qualify for a program and one of the perks is that they will buy me a new GPS (up to $500). I figured I might as well take the opportunity to get a new one that I can use for the boat also since my current one is a bit older.

Is it even possible to get a decent one for $500 bucks that works both on water and land?

YUP, Garmin 478, I believe they are discontinued now, but I love mine, and I believe they are down to around $500 after rebate.

get the 378 if you are on an inland lake.

Yep. I've had one for about four years now. Only wonk bug it has is you can not use their software on your computer and make up a specific route and transfer it over to the GPS.
Not a big deal at all if you are just using it for simple road trips and on the lake, but I used to do a lot of motorcycle road trips and tried to find every bit of twisty roads that went in the general direction I was heading and try to tie them all together. Can't do that with this unit.
