Same here. I had frost on the truck this morning. This is bullsht. I may need a quick crash course on winterizing. WTF?

Drop lights should be placed.............then plug the extention cord in from a distance of 50-100 feet as long as the insurance is paid up!


Doesn't it have to get below freezing for longer than one night to do any damage? If the low is 30 for 5-6 hours is that enough to freeze the block inside the boat?

that was the plan but wifey threw away my drop lights so I went to plan b for last night. tonight it gets antifreeze. forcasting teens for tonight & saturday, it's getting old!!

Salt water freezes at 28 degrees and you need about a week in the 20's during the daytime to crack a salt water engine block from what I've seen over the years. so if you fresh water flush, figure 30 degrees with mixture. Even fresh water will need at least a few days with a hard freeze (24-36 hrs plus) to cause bad damage... I wouldn't worry about night time temps dipping below freezing for a few hours. If it's more than 24 hrs I would definitely be worried. The boat holds a little heat as well.

To be safe I would pull the drain plugs on the engine and disconnect the water hoses to the water pump/cooler/engine to drain the low spots.

We use the 24F for 24hrs method...if it stays that cold for that long you better winterize or put a drop light in the bilge... It's commonly done all the time...That is providing you don't have a fuel leak, then it would be not advised...
