Funds Brave restore thread

Wasn't the whole thing your idea anyway? :D :sifone:

it was but I kind of lost track for a little while. Just popped in thinking I could read the last 2 pages but found a lot of good info and ended up reading the whole thing in reverse:iamwithstupid:

Geez Patrick, You're making it out like you just recently got married and had a kid or something... And you no longer have time to hang with us...:seeya:

Ok, question: Getting really close to paint.
My piant scheme is medium blue metallic for all the painted parts and the rest is stainless, aluminum, or otherwise polished. (valve covers, exhaust tips, flame arrestors, crossovers) The heads are aluminum and look really good (now). Should I wait and paint them in a new years when they don't look so good, or should I paint them now?

Paint them now. Tape off all the critical areas of the motor and scuff any overly smooth areas that will be getting painted. Fog the whole engine with laquer a few times to get all the oils and solvets out out before priming.

In fresh water, all that will happen is they'll lose some shine. They're not going to get all white and powdery. If they do, you've got much bigger problems.

I see mixed use salt/fresh in its future, depending on the season. I think that I'll paint em. There will be enough bling anyway... and the intakes and exhausts will be the same color.

John, time to put some pressure on your engine builder. It only takes a couple of weeks to put an engine together but the little things like pushrod lengths etc. can cause delays that will eat into your summer. I can't wait to see your boat in the water. It's going to be a beast.
