Ft Myers Offshore (FMO) season opener PHOTOS

Today was the season opener for Ft Myers Offshore. Events are normally on Sat; however, the weather postponed us until today. The official start was at the Sanibel Causeway Bridge, and due to sea conditions, the entire group ran 30 miles up the ICW to Charlotte Harbor, and then 12 miles across the harbor to Burnt Store Marina.

I have something like 1,000 photos, most are sky and water (it was very bumpy), but every once in a while, somehow boat got into a shot. I also have about 150 shots, of the group before the start, coming into the marina, and at the docks. It will take me some time to go through them, and get them posted.

Here are a few running shots, to get you started.

Nice pics Frank, good seeing you!

Thank you Pete, your pics look excellent, as always!

I made a few 'rookie' mistakes

I had forgotten to run up the ISO a bit, so I could keep the shutter speed and F-stop higher

I had grabbed the lens, and aparently slid the IS switch to off

I need crisper shots (more in focus), the above should help some

I need way more experience at this, and shotting in a bouncing boat is way
harder than it looks. Not droping the camera, and not smacking myself in the head with it (to many times), was at the top of my 'do not do' list.

I had a good time, and enjoyed talking with you.

This last group contains the lunch Stop

I have another 900 or so pictures, but those that are left, are very similar to the running
shots I already posted, and quite a few are just sky or water, with no boat to be seen.

Taking good photos of a fast moving boat, from a fast moving boat, on a bumpy day, is
much more difficult that it looks. Next time you see our own professional club
photographer Jay, or one of the other local professionals, like Jeff or Pete, who have
helped us out once or twice, thank them for the good job they do.

I had a good time and I hope you enjoy the pictures I posted.
