Fox News again accused of airing misleading video

For the second time in just over a week, Fox News is coming under fire for misusing old news footage. The latest flap is leading some people to charge that the cable news network is intentionally misleading its audience, while Fox claims a "production error."

Wednesday's incident occurred when Fox News host Gregg Jarrett mentioned that a Sarah Palin appearance and book signing in Grand Rapids, Michigan had a massive turnout. As footage rolled of a smiling and waving Palin amidst a throng of fans, Jarrett noted that the former Republican vice-presidential candidate is "continuing to draw huge crowds while she's promoting her brand-new book,'' adding that the images being shown were "some of the pictures just coming in to us.... The lines earlier had formed this morning."

However, the video used in the segment was from a 2008 McCain/Palin campaign rally. In response to the minor uproar that arose after clips of Jarrett's report hit the Internet, Fox senior vice-president of news Michael Clemente issued an initial statement saying, "This was a production error in which the copy editor changed a script and didn't alert the control room to update the video."

Makes sense to me...:USA:

The media? Misleading? No way!!!!!!

It's a huge deal right now because of the censorship that the WH wants against Fox. The other networks see blood in the water. Scumbags, all of 'em.:(:(:(

Well then, we should all be very happy that AP put 11, count them 11, reporters on fact checking Palin's new book. It would have been nice to get some with experience , but since ZERO were assigned to fact check Obama's 3 books they had to break in a whole new team :icon_bs::icon_bs:

So happy AP is watching out for us...:USA:

That does not excuse Fox News from misleading the public. :lurk5:

wonder if the ap will have that many people reading the health care bill? being as congress wont.

I see the mistake, however maybe they were just showing an old crowd and a new crowd as comparisons and the left spun it a diff way? :)

Speaking of Rogue....

It's funny that they accidentally showed a comic graphic of Sarah Palin's new book, retitled "Going Rouge," thinking that it was the actual book "Going Rogue."

Clay,
I've gotta ask, why such a hard-on about this?? I mean, really. They all probably do the same thing and no one picks up on it, but it's a big deal because it's Palin??? I'm not cheering for either side on this. Sure, Sarah Palin is hot, but I think that she is a dipchit and there's no way that would ever vote for her for Prez.

From what I understand, they had footage of her from last year while talking about the crowds that are lining up for autographs. I could care a less. Do you think that Fox is trying to get people to like her?? I just don't understand...:confused:

Kind of like when CNN misled a nation into thinking there was a terrorist attack on DC on the anniversary of 9/11...
Errors happen.

But besides, I see no mention of this in Snopes, so I'm not buyin' it.

:p

I am very upset with Fox News because they need to be believable. I hate the lies and rumors that Fox News spews out because they need to be above it.

Right now Fox News is the only "news" network that is fighting the current administration. Fox News needs to be the credible voice of the opposition, but they are not credible. :(

I want Fox news to succeed and be believeable. But they need to tell the truth and not mislead the public. Showing video that occurred at a different place and time of the current news story causes them to lose their credibility. They become the "sack of sh*t" that the White House portrays them to be.

Fox News can do better.

I'm with you on all of this. But let's face it. This is the media; this is what they do.

Someday I hope I am perfect and never make a mistake. I know the media should not make an error but I doubt it was intentional. Accidents happen and a mistake was made. At least they admitted it and apologized and did not try to cover it up.

I guess to know if they were missleading us if the crowds were in fact small. I did not read all of it but I guess if there were large crowds and they just put in old footage then what is the harm...... Not saying that is what happened as I have not read all this. Has anyone seen the answer to this?
