I know a local guy that restores Model T street rods. He said that market tanked 20 years ago since the younger guys don't really like the T's but their dads really liked them. As the hot rod crowd ages their taste in cars age as well. For me, I don't care about old cars simply because the newer ones are faster, better optioned.

I couldn't be bothered with any of the three cars you posted. A nice Caddy convertible (60's) is about as old as I can appreciate. A twenty year old mint 911, now we are talking.

Someone once told me the cars you liked in high school are the cars you will be like your whole life. For my dad's generation it was the 57 Chevy- the 64 Mustang.

And on the flip side, I walk past a guy's car every day when I go to work... It's a "survivor"... He drives it rain or shine. It's a real, original AAR 'Cuda.

Oh wait, when he decides the 'Cuda's too nice to drive he drives his "beater" an original T/A six pack Challeger.

I had an employee like that...........70 Boss 302, all paperwork, original block (very rare since most blew up) knew the ownership chain since the late 70's. He owned it 18 years and was commuting to work 100 miles a day. Car was ok (needed restoration) when he started and three years later it needed the boneyard. Got 10K for a car he bought 18 years earlier for 3K. He figured he got to enjoy it and made 7K. Car had no a/c, no power steering and he commuted in FL all summer long...........:ack2:

Fast forward, same guy got a 60K mile 1986 Corvette Pace Car Convertible in 2005. Daily drove it and commuted in it 100 miles a day. Car now has 260K, looks like it was recovered after the LA Riots. I told him to buy a $3,000 commuter car before killing another car. He was thinking about it but never got around to it so he simply destroyed another nice car.

That car ate him alive in parts the first two years. Wheel bearings, fuel pumps, you name it.....it broke. He rationalized it was cheaper than a payment on a car he wouldn't want to drive anyway! I argued the payment would be cheaper, it would be the same amount each month (so you could plan for it) and the newer economy car wouldn't break as much.........

Total B.S. 85-90% have the original blocks which is pretty good since they were very abused in their day.

That engine was good enough to become the basic design that all 4 NASCAR manufacturers use today (with 56 more cubes).

Most have been sitting in the barns for many years. He's got 60+ cars, I've lost count. Some do get used but most of them are pretty buried and most likely will never leave the barn.

Birdog, I've had my eye on that 55 Gasser for years. Maybe someday it will be mine.
