Man in burning truck drives to fire station

May 9, 9:00 AM (ET)

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. (AP) - Truck on fire? Forget calling 911. Craig Brown of Carlton just drove a few more blocks to the McMinnville Fire Station when smoke started to billow from under the hood of his pickup. McMinnville Fire Marshal Eric McMullen said a firefighter who'd been outside Friday morning washing an ambulance rushed inside to get help.
Firefighters opened the hood and found flames licking around the engine. They quickly grabbed a hose and put out the fire.
McMullen said the crew was happy to be able to help without leaving the station. And he adds, "We were joking today about our new drive-up service."

I had that happen in my own driveway a few years back. My son's girlfriend came screaming into the driveway, jumped out of the car and ran up to the front door screaming Fire.

My sons and I looked out through the front bay window and saw flames under her car....I grabbed a garden hose while my youngest called 911...fire was out when the FD arrived 5 minutes later....found it was a valve cover leak dripping on the exhaust.....Scary cuz she pulled up close to the garage and my boat!

I was a volunteer firefighter for 10 years in CT, this happens quite a bit. One of our sister companies once missed a call, because they were in too much of a rush to leave, and didnt wait for the door to go all the way up.
