Thought I would share my experience with you in the hope of
helping you avoid the same fate. I was ticketed by an
officer in a van with a digital set up and radar system in
early May traveling 61 MPH in a 45 MPH construction zone on
I-88 near Naperville , IL . I received my MUST APPEAR
citation, a close-up photo of me, a close-up photo of my
car, and a close-up photo of my license plate, all time/date
stamped. My court date was this week. I was probably 1 of
200 or so people in the courtroom (a makeshift courtroom at
the Downers Grove American Legion, in the Bingo Hall). I
was asked how I pleaded. I plead guilty and asked the court
for supervision. My fine broke down like this; $465.00
fine, $285.00 court costs for a total of $750.00. Court
Supervision for me was granted. The Judge actually
apologized before proceedings to all present for the high
court costs that would be assessed, but stated that Gov
BloGo had raised court costs 3 times last year and once
already this year.

The state has many of these unmarked vans in
operation and moves them around the state. If you are
issued a citation there is no way out of it. You may get
supervision, most people did. But many of the people tried
ahead of me were also cited for driving at a higher speed,
driving without their seat belt on, driving with expired
plates, following too close, operating an unsafe vehicle,
improper lane usage and driving too fast for conditions.
Some people were asked to provide proof that they had
insurance at the time the citation was issued and if c ould
not, their case was continued.

I saw people fined so much money they were crying
when they wrote the check. Some people were back in court
for the second time because they could not pay when
convicted at an earlier date. They asked another
continuance. Some were granted it and some were handcuffed
and hauled off - one with his wife and two kids standing in
the back of the courtroom crying.

Some people brought their attorney, it didn't
matter, they wasted their money on that. This is a real
money maker; I saw fines as high as $10,000.

Heed my warning, this can cost you a lot of money!

Bottom line: I should not have been speeding in a
Construction Zone. Neither should you!

Also be aware some intersections are now photo ticket zones like 111th and Harlem .
If you stop past the large white line you get a ticket.
if you do not make it thru the intersection before it turns red you get a ticket.
If you do not make a full stop behind the white line before making a right turn on red you get a ticket.
All tickets are timed with your photo, license plate, and violation.
You cannot beat the system. All tickets are $467.00 fines.

Be careful!

So Bill what do you think the present might be ? $$$$$$$$$$$:rofl::rofl:

It always says fines double in construction zones. It should have been no surprise.

Indiana is better. There you can pay a little extra to have it not appear on your record.

I'm sure we can all look forward to more and more of these traps as municipalities begin losing revenue. I know in Tampa, they just increased all fine amounts to fill budget gaps.

used to be a town in missouri called cherryville, they made 60 minutes because of their speedtraps

there is a group in Ohio that is making a push in Toledo, trying to get an amendment to the city charter probhibiting photo enforcement..enough people sign the petition it goes on the ballot, people vote for it and there is nothing the city can do except take them down. everybody remember when they first went up, we were told they were for safety not revenue generating but now they are raising the fines to generate revenue... go figure..

Good ole Illinois. :ack2:

Back in the early 90's I was stopped a half of mile form my house in Hoffman Estates. Routine. The cop checked things out, back and forth then he comes back asking me what do I want to do with my car? Do I want him to call a tow truck? I was getting arrested. The reason. TOTALLY BS. In Il.. (like in many other states) we have to have the car inspected every year for emmisions. I did.. I had the sticker on my window. NO GOOD.. the state f'uced up. I was pleading my case and showing the sticker to the cop, but no go. My DL was suspended by the state due to a computer error.
After the court and many $ for the tow, storage, bond. etc.. I got a letter from the state appologiziing for my convenience.
I sent it back.. with some serious verbage.

Moved to FLA soon after..
But it's just as bad here.

With any law greater consequences minimize violations. Now if we could just get to that eye for an eye thing and stop strectching those capital murder cases out for years.

That's bullchit right there! What if it's not safe to stop? I believe it's open to interpretation. I was under the impression that as long as you crossed the white line while the light was yellow you were fine, not as you passed thru the intersection???

In Missouri there has been significant debate about the legality of the intersection cameras that only indentify the vehicle plate and not the driver as well. Lawyers are telling their clients to disregard the tickets.

I had a similar experence in 0H. I was pulled over for running a total bull**** stop sign (whole other story). I was arrested for driving under suspension that I never even knew about. I was one of the first hundred or so random proof of insurance mailings that the BMV sent out, I sent it back and the BMV never processed it and suspended my liscence with no notification whatsoever. I had to drive to the state BMV office with back proof of insurance, of course they would admit no wrongdoing and still wanted me to pay reinstatement fees even after showing proof of coverage at the time of the mailing. After threatening a very large lawsuit due to their fukup and my lost business time they waived the fees and sent me on my way with a letter stating that my liscence should have never been suspended and it was an error on their behalf. At my plea hearing I pled not guilty and tried to show the judge the letter, he didnt want to see it and told me to bring it to my jurry trial.:ack2: I was on the phone with my LEO cousin hashing out the details of the arrest before contacting my attorney when he offered to go in uniform out of his jurisdiction to the prosecutor with my letter. PROBLEM SOLVED.

The sad part is since that happened to me I have heard of at least a dozzen other people who have experienced the same thing. Needless to say from now on whenever I send anything of importance through the mail to any govt. agency I mail it signature required confirmation.
