Detroit, Gar Wood the Speed King.

One of the things I remember about that race was that my passenger, Skitch Caroll, had on a pair of Raybans with the first "Frog" straps I had ever seen. Crossing the "hump", you didn't dare let go of the grab bar. Skitch's glasses came off, swung behind him, started twirling like a propeller, and strangled him unconcious!

How old was Gar senior...and was his age their "Handicap"?

And the next thing you noticed???????:sifone:

Very cool boat , and to think i am in the process of restoring a 1960 Century Resorter , that now has all new cover boards , aft decks , two new transom boards , some new framing and battens , with five new plank's each side with the rest following in the near future considering i will be building a steam box ..starting next week to complete both sides of the boat with all new wood.

Paul to tell you the truth it has been a major project, and all the more reason for building a steam box considering i am getting so close to finishing both sides of the boat and dont need to waste any wood due to cracking considering the surface or boards that i am replacing at this time have a tremendous curve along with a little twist in them . Rschap1 , actually building the steam box is fairly easy which will be 3/4 ply 13 1/2 by 13 1/2 - 76 , inches long with two 1500 watt wall paper steamers , with one at each end..... which will produce steam for almost two hours . Hey guys , i dragged this project home thinking it would be done in a few weeks ( WRONG ) along with an idea in mind that working on a wooden boat has got to be better then grinding on glass all day....... seeing that it is in my garage 16 ft long and a project that i can work on any time i feel without having to suit up in a Tyvek suit along with having a drink or two of my choice and , come spring i will be looking for another project boat but........ this next one is going to be glass in the 16 to 22 foot range .

It's about 15 minutes from my house and I haven't been there for about 3 years.

Great idea for this foul weather.....taking my 12 year old over there in 1/2 hour!

Thanks!

That's cool. We were in Seattle during Seafair this summer and didn't get a chance to watch the hydros. But we did get to watch the Blue Angels some....
