Many of you know, my wife got a promotion, and we just moved cross country.
We both worked for the same Co. reporting to the same Director.
Her promotion would mean my position out here would have me reporting to her - and that is a big ole NO-NO in the eyes of HR.
I've already interviewed 3-times at one place for a new gig, and went for the pee test. Should hear back this week - and I have NOTHING TO WORRY about passing the test.
I figured I'd file the unemployment because I had to relocate.
Nope. Denied.
I've been paying into this for the past 6 years.
I'm looking for the 1 month which would be about $1200 - would cover my child support.
No Dice.
So, Under this new plan, the people that didn't pay into it get the money, and ME, the guy that has payed in, and is actively searching for a job, and will likely be employed by the end of the week...
I get nothing.
What a crock of chit.
I'm not hurting, and I can afford it.
But, I'm productive, and the $1200 would certainly help - I made decent money, but I'm not exactly ordering a Nor-Tech any day soon.

So, how the phuck does this work. I could use 1 month of salary to help out and then I'm done.

If I needed a lifetime of salary, all I would have to do is bone my wife, have more kids, and I'd get a raise.

I don't what the story is in your state, but in Michigan, the employer pays into the unemployment fund, not the employee. When I lay somebody off, they receive benefits, when they quit/move whatever, they are on their own.

Where did you apply, AZ or OH? Unemployment is a state-run benefit. And technically did you quit or were you laid off? Benefits only if you are laid off. And the wife has a job so your household income is above minimum wage...you guessed it, no benefits. Ooof...throwing fuel on the fire here, but unemployment is paid for by employers, no deduction from your paycheck; so unless you had employed people at some point, you haven't actually paid anything (other than your state taxes, etc.)

Think of it this way: we all b!tch about how people living off the fruit of others have no incentive to get off their @ss and get a job. Not that you needed it (edit: "it" = the motivation) necessarily, but since you've been denied, you'll continue to bust your butt getting a real job.

You'd probably be better off taking an odd job or two off Craigslist for the time being, FWIW.

Applied in Kentucky.
HR suggested I do this. I only left the Co. because they could not place me in AZ, and the commute to Kentucky would be impossible.
HR seemed to think it was a resonable request when I left.
I'll likely be hired to a job I don't want by the end of the week. Already been through interviews, and pee-test. Probably make more than I did back there, but hours/schedule will suck.

The thing that is really ****infg me off is all the people living off the Gov't t!t, and I'm the guy paying in, getting nothing back.

What about disability? Can you claim a disability of some sort?

Because while you haven't probably paid the unemployment insurance premiums, you have paid plenty of social security.

I thought that this thread meant that you TRIED to be unemployed and some bastard hired you.

Ohio is the same way, Our system is pretty stupid, the claimant often imidiately starts reccieving compensation. If the claim is appealed by the employer and the appeal is granted, then the unemployment program has to refund the employers account and worry about collecting it back from the claimant. Ive had guys whom I've never even heard of file a claim against me on more than one occasion.:boxing_smiley:

The interesting part in Michigan, with the people who know the system, you can lie on your UnO application and it will immediately be granted.

Then the form is sent to the previous employers for review. If the employer disagrees, a form is filled out and sent in, then the UnO office sends a form to the person for agreement or disagreement. After three go rounds of this, all the time the person is receiving unemployment, a phone hearing is set up. Then, with a judge and both parties on the phone, the (almost) final decision is made. If it is ruled in the employers favor, payments are stopped, the employers account is credited, and the state sends a notice the person has to pay back what's been received. In almost all cases they can't.

I'd rather have my $$ (and the company I work for not have to pay in to it which means me as an employee cost them less overall which means I can ask for a raise). SS & Medicare/cade = same scenario

Reapply claiming you are a single black male with 5 kids from different woman, and you suspect you were laid off because the company has a history of discrimanatory behavior.....

They'll be quick to send you a check, and you'll be back working by the time they figure it out....

Because eventually they will simply pick up your Medicare Part B but you will still be on Medicare. At least that's what ATT did for their retirees.
