Cop Strike.

I read an article outlining the flaws with Obama's job creation/credit plan. Guy owned a chain of vetinary clinics and was considering hiring a new worker to get the few thousand dollar credit. The problem was the $15-16 job actually costs the guy over $20 an hour after social security, medicare, workers comp etc. At a real cost of $800 wk/ 41,600 a year the cost out valued the work the employee did even after getting the credit back! He said he is still weighing the decision but hasn't hired anyone yet.

Employees think they are always underpaid but from the standpoint of labor=production/profit vs. cost to employer the employee sometimes is overpaid/inefficient. I let a long time employee go 2 years ago and replaced him with a guy for $200 a week less (over 10,000 in savings per year!). The work quality is the same or maybe a tad better and the market for the job has shifted to lower wages since there are more eligible workers hungry for a job.

Now for the ex-employee, he went out job hunting thinking $800 a week is the lowest he would take despite the fact he was overpaid. Last I heard he was living with his mother (he is 49) and not working. Realistically he will struggle to find work at $400 a week (due to recent loss of drivers license). The wage time machine easily got turned back 20 years on this guy (as in his earning potential is back to where it was in the late 80's).

It happened in NH last year at a printing company. Union wanted more money/benefits, they went on strike. Company said they couldn't make any money and closed up shop. 500 people stunned and unemployed!

No one in America seems to think they are at their maximum employment value! Most jobs have a wage ceiling, you can't make more in that job/position. If you don't like that fact, time to switch ladders and change jobs!

Dana sold thier frame division to a mexican company. Mexican company is keeping it in the US, a bunch of the senior engineers live in Pa. and the new company told them they wanted them to move to detroit and offered moving expenses. The group in Pa. thought they were irreplaceable and collectivly said no, thinking the company would cave. Company simply told them their services were no longer needed. Oops....

Fund how many police officers do you think actually care about public safety anymore? What happened to protect & to serve? Now it's like we'll show up when you call, but we are gonna try & screw ya till then...In my opinion there are far to many places with to many cops on duty @ any given time.... It seems Like that just about the only thing they are out there for anymore is to write speeding tickets & catch drunk drivers.... Now I'm not knocking them for catching drunk drivers but it's about ridiculous anymore, I mean a grown man can't even drink 4 to 5 beers in over a period of 2hrs without getting arrested if he gets pulled over, then how much $$$ is that going to cost any given person?

I've worked 2nd shift for almost 2 years now, getting off work usually between 12:30-3:00 any given night, I've been pulled over 7 times on the way home, have not recieved a single ticket & none of those times were for speeding.... Every single time the 1st question is where are you coming from tonight, gets old real fast...

Fewer officers would definately be a positive around my neck of the woods in my opinion.

Can't argue with that. I have historically been fairly pro-law enforcement. But five or ten years ago I realized (as did the supreme court) that the notion that they can "protect" us is an unrealistic expectation and that they should be considered an investigative tool of the prosecutor.

What pizzed me off is not the lapse in that "protection" but the fact that so many of them would rather put their job (and some element of public safety) in jeopardy than take a few minor concessions and keep everyone's job. The rest of the world has had to make some changes. Perhaps they do too.

I support the Mayor's intent to fire them.

btw... I used to work in bars. I was only ever pulled over in the wee hours. I know what you mean.

Just wait until that take some of their money from them I'm sure they will be dragging ass worse than the already do
