Colorado ski town legalizes pot

DENVER – The Colorado ski town of Breckenridge has voted overwhelmingly to legalize marijuana.

Early returns Tuesday night showed the proposal winning with 72 percent of the vote. The measure would allow adults over 21 to have up to 1 ounce of marijuana.

The measure is largely symbolic because pot possession remains a state crime for people without medical clearance. But supporters said they wanted to send a message to local law enforcement to stop busting small-time pot smokers.

The vote comes as communities nationwide are struggling with how to enforce pot laws at a time when medical marijuana has surged in popularity.

Makes you wonder wtf they are smoking up there.:(

You obviously haven't spent much time skiing in Colorado. I haveever seem so many stoners, burn outs in my life! Good for them. I am not a pot smoker and don't condon it but why should they waste time and resources busting small time guys just trying to catch a buzz!

I dont really have a problem with legitimate medical use. I do have a problem with all the carnage going on in our border towns as a result of the drug trafficking, I think I heard that there had been 6000 related murders this year in Mexico and the US border area.

that's really a separate issue- besides, most of the weed in this country these days is grown here. the mexicans focus on coke and meth because of bigger profits and ease of transport. they recently took the rather drastic step of legalizing all drugs in an attempt to 'solve' the problem.

the 'war on drugs' is a joke- has been from the getgo.

It's all fine and dandy until somebody is stoned and gets distracted while behind the wheel...That's when head-on collisions happen. I have no problem someone chooses to sit in there house and get stoned...I just don't want to be on the road with 'em!!!

The argument is no different than legalized alcohol. But it's much less expensive for the government to legalize it, tax it and incarcerate the DUI's than to outlaw it, chase it and waste a bunch of our tax money. AND, if you legalize it, the black market and gang crimes plummet because there's no money is dealing it. Think about how Al Capone made it huge running illegal liquor. Once it was legalized, there's no criminal profit.

Besides, all Conservatives should want it legalized. it represents the government getting OUT of our private lives, not trying to control it. I'm not necessarily one to light up a spleef, but I've nevermet an aggressive pothead. It's usually the drunk that is a problem.

How is the government going to control weed tax, when more of it is home grown? Will the government set up weed houses, or have specific distributors. I mean I could open up a grow facility and report sales, but how on earth would they regulate it?

I can see the ads now "miller light fire one up" i guess that means the Wazzzzzzzup" commercials will be back.

It's called "revenuers" :p

The government isn't worried about the "home grown, home smoked" weed. They will always go after the dealers.

no different from drinking and driving. plenty of drunks on the road. I can't remember hearing about anybody being stoned and causing an accident. Maybe because they were going 20 mph under the speed limit:sifone:
