Cobra Cat

In all my shopping for a twin O/B cat 30'+, Ive come across a brand called "Cobra".

Ive not been able to find any information on them via google other than a few outdated ads. They seem to make a 30' twin o/b cat with a center pod that looks like a great ride.

The pricing seems to be in line with what I want and the boat has a fair amount of freeboard. Plus it being a 30' vs a 24 or 28 really catches my interest.

Can anyone chime in with some background on them? Heres a few pics that Ive found on the net.

Shop insurance first. You may not be able to find anyone to write it at all, or if they do the price could be scary.

Why is that? a 30' cat with o/b's shouldnt be too bad. I was able to find insurance for a 28 skater without too much trouble. What am I missing?

That's right. The insurers know Skater. The unknown brands scare them. There are some known, established brands out there that they won't touch simply because of prior loss records.

Sometimes it's not the boat- or not entirely. If someone has a "value" boat that a lesser-qualified buyer can get going 100+ in fairly inexpensively, that buyer group is likely to have more incidents. And that leads to red flags with insurers.

And I'm leaving names out of it.

damnn, if its not one thing its another.. Outside of being able to get insurance, do you know anything about the manufacturer?

Created in 1990 by Peter Casini, these "hulls of the future" featured Kevlar and E-Glass with balsa coring and high density foams for light weight and strength. Out of these designs came Casini's first race boat, aptly named the 30' Cobra Terminator.

In 1992 the Terminator Cat won the first of Cobra Boat's numerous regional, national, and world offshore racing championships. Not satisfied with Offshore Racing World Championships, Peter Casini next took the hull of the Terminator and created a sport fishing boat. The fuel efficient and incredibly maneuverable 30' Cobra Predator reaches speeds of over 90mph.

I know nothing of the specific boat. But from experience, I wouldn't sit in a docked center-pod cat for fear of it killing me.

Buy that 32 Doug Wright with the canopy. It is a steal.

Throw 2 seats in the back and do some vinyl graphics and you are rocking.

Or buy a Skater.

All out of my price range.. A steal or not, dosent help if you dont have the funds..

The one Im looking at was originally a triple O/B boat and the center engine was removed when it was repowered. Maybe thats the reason it has a center pod?
When you go from triples to twins, can you leave the motors where they are or should they be moved out or in further?

Let me know if you want to talk with Dave Shields. he was VP sales, helped build them and raced them here and overseas. He's also a close friend . Let me know if you want his number
