CMI "Unitop" exhaust

Gordo

Competitor
Does anyone have experience with the CMI Unitops?
Does CMI, (or any of their dealers) still offer these?

I have used them before. They were an affordable alternative to the E tops. They have the header and tailpipe made into one, so there is no need to buy tailpipes. I don't believe they make them any more. To bad, cause they worked great.

I ran them on my 525SC in the Pantera. They are basically an E Top with a built in tail pipe..........without the cost of the tails. I think they are still available. I think Teague might have them.
They are still listed on the CMI website http://www.custommarine.com/headerapps/ElbowTop.php

CMI's new style e-tops for the Merc 496 are bacially the same header and they will fit any big block chevy marine engine. I think there about $2600 in satin and about $3500 polished. Teague seems to be the big stocking distributor. Geez, they should be payin me for promoting their new product!
They only make about 20-25Hp max over stock 496 exhaust so don't go looking for those 50-60HP increases!

After thinking about it, I do remember them re-releasing them. They built them for a few years and then stopped. Apparantly, they are making them again. I know they used to be a hell of a lot cheaper than that. I want to say they used to go for about 1800 or so.

Yep, Mine were about $1800 with shipping on group purchase. That was satin lower and polished top. That was also before CMI had the big price increase a few years back. I think they are about the same price as a set of Etops without the tails now......so about $2500???

Chisneeze??

Eddie and Griff , you guys are showing your age with those prices and I am sure a little CRS disease is slipping in on you like me! Heck, I can easily remember when a bottle of coke was 25 cents!
When Ed's CMI was aquirred a few years back the prices jumped pretty quick with the new corporate ownership and such and yes I have to give them credit, the cost of stainless material over the last 6 or 8 years has gone thru the frick'in roof!. Thank the Chisneeze for that!

Whats a Chineeze?? It those US corporations who put shareholders and Wall Street ahead of its US birthplace and history, US re-investment, workers and product purchasers and took those badly needed investment and jobs here and quietly slipped them out the back door to China!

Are we really any better off now with those supposedly more affordable prices for goods!

Wal Mart, US Big Banks, Insurance companies including Health, Wall Street and a ton of other US/International corporations are not your friends!!

There I go ranting again! Heck someones got to Say, "I'AM FED UP and I AIN"T GONNA TAKE IT NO MORE!"

Ditto Ray. And let's add Chinese drywall that was imported and all the homes that have them in them are foreclosed, and bank owned etc. People are geting sick, wiring corroding, AC goes to hell.. etc.. Google it.
Back to topick. CMI's run like hell. I just had mine checked.. and of course they leaked.. Valves are being redone. etc. Luckly... no major motor isues. After, I get the boat back from the hospital.. I'm getting some other headers then CMI's.. Dryer vent tube might be better then CMI.

Sorry for digging up old threads, I keep going back & forth on what to do with this because I already have one pair, (still N I B), and am trying to decide if it's worth it to buy a matching pair or start over with something else much less expensive.
