Cheap 32 ft cat

They were glass boats.

My neighbor has one with triple V8's on the back. He'd sell his for a song too. Lots of storage, wide beam and a big 32'

My mechanic raced one that looked just like that one in the Key West worlds when his boat was out of commission because of a fire. I saw him limp home at idle, dragging one of the V8 'rudes off the transom...never seen anything like that.

Mike Peters design....built by Gene Whipp.

Very good pedigree and sort of a scaled down Apache Cat.......

There's a lot worse out there....especially from the West Coast... :p

T2x

We raced the first one they had with the V8 Johnrude's (Evenrude) Maelstrom made a deal will us because we were heading to the worlds as National points champion and our number in Pro Stock would be P-1 our Shadow had burned up in last race of the year. Our team was Boardwalk Racing we went down to the Maelstrom factory in Sarasota Fl. and spend a week finishing the rigging with the guys from Mealstrom. Did testing in Sarasota bay and headed to Key West. The boat was fast at the time if I remember it ran around 1000 mph. Johnrude gave all the numbers on fuel usage. Boy were they off. Think they said the two motors would burn 16 gph but they burned twice as much. First race we were running out front allmost the hole race and ran out of gas. We spend the hole night at a welding shop in Key West making more fuel tanks for the boat. Johnrude promised us the world in tech support as this was there big chance to get into offshore racing. There tech support S--KED. And no support truck like they promised, needed carb gaskets, had to get another teams helicopter to fly up to Miami to pick them up. Here our some pictures of the Mealstrom with the V-8's. Look and you're we busted up starboard side. They gave us another 32 to run the following year which we ran will 2.4 Merc's. This was around 88-90 ( don't remember exactly. The boat was fast, but is a lake boat not an ocean racer. The Maelstrom's we had were fiberglass.

I think it was '88 when Nicky dragged the starboard motor home. That was my last year in KW until '07 and I remember seeing it in person.

I got CRS can't remember s__t. I am getting like a old 286 computer information is being put in daily, but forget about trying to retrieve it.

What size was the Maelstrom that blew over in Barnegat Bay in 86? I think that one was bigger than 32'. That boat was fast.

There was a bigger Maelstrom(37' I think) that ran either Sport or open class. Had 3 huge Merc OB's and ran some ridiculous speeds apparently. It was named Innovation and was black/white. Not sure if this is the one you are talking about.

That hull was one of the two wooden prototypes. It was actually a little smaller. I have a picture of the boat after the flip, but I can't find it. It actually climbed the Jesse James rooster tail after being passed at the start and blew over

That was another hull...Here is Mike Drewry's 37' Innovation Maelstrom (the very first hull) after repowering with OMC's. It was an Open class hull and held the Kilo record for a while. Billy Sirois and Al Copeland drove it to a victory in Detroit with Mercury T-4 power wearing Popeye's colors. They actually used the T-4's off my earlier Shadow Cat (2 plus the spare).

OK now that you guys got my mine back in gear. We had the 2 two V-8's in 1987 at KW. Maelstrom gave us the old ACR SPINT boat to run in 1988. Here are some pictures of it, we were now back home with three Merc 2.4's
