Nah- if people don't have a signal they spend 1/2 the day walking around trying to find one or yell in to the phone hoping the other person can hear them now.

Surely it cnnot be illegal for me to block cell signals in my office? I can cut-off cable, etc. Anyone know the truth behind this?

In the United States, cell-phone jamming is covered under the Communications Act of 1934, which prohibits people from "willfully or maliciously interfering with the radio communications of any station licensed or authorized" to operate. In fact, the "manufacture, importation, sale or offer for sale, including advertising, of devices designed to block or jam wireless transmissions is prohibited" as well.

most movie theatre's have a shielding process. it would be a material installation and not an electronic device

When I worked at some secure data centers the second you walked thru
the doors your signal bars went to zero. No cell phones or pagers.

All of the vendors would be standing outside with the smokers making calls.

Shielded building, grounded metal foil on the windows, etc.

Very true, but do you know anyone ever gone after for this. It's just like downloading music and movies. Ever listen in on phone calls with a scaner?

I have my old Bear Tracker scanner, but it's in storage. i figure the only people still talking on alaog cell phones are trying to find jobs picking strawberries.

I've never heard of anyone being prosecuted or investigatged over this. I think it happens all the time; it's the idiots still trying to talk on the phone or rushing out the door every 5 minutes that don't realize it.

I think the main thing is people keep to themselves- they hear a loud mouth they are scared to say some thing. I'm loud all the time (in general; esp after vodka) and never hear a peep. LOL!

I work in SCIFs for a living. Often the entire buildings are encased in lead with no windows. Newer technologies exist with the same effect (i.e.: a building inside of a building with an interstitial space), but the old school lead buildings are prevalent.
