CBPBA / SeriousOffshore Poker Run

Hey all...Glad to see that this thread has generated a good bit of interest for our run. Sorry for the last minute announcement but sometimes these things just come together like that. We are planning a great event this year and hope to double what we had last year.

We created this run last year as a Poker/Fun run with the intent on allowing all types of power boats to participate. The emphasis this year will again be on having a fun day of boating on the Chesapeake Bay with plenty of time to socialize. The routes are designed so that a cruiser or slower center consoles can skip some of the drive through stops but not miss the full stops. We try and limit planned activities do that participants don’t feel rushed and are able to mingle with other participants.

The distances for the run are as follows:

Start From Cambridge and Return
Cambridge Hyatt to Oxford 14.0
Schooner's Landing to Skippers Pier 29.0
Skippers Pier to Chesapeake Beach 8.2
Chesapeake beach to Lowe's Wharf 13.8
Lowe's Wharf to Harrisons 7.0
Harrisons to Cambridge Hyatt 19.4
Total Miles 91.4

Start From Turkey Point Returning to Hyatt
Turkey Point to Turn 1 7.9
Turn 1 to Skippers 18.8
Skippers Pier to Chesapeake Beach 8.2
Chesapeake beach to Lowe's Wharf 13.8
Lowe's Wharf to Harrisons 7.0
Harrisons to Cambridge Hyatt 19.4
Total Miles 75.1

Start from Turkey Point Returning to Turkey Point
Turkey Point to Turn 1 7.9
Turn 1 to Skippers 18.8
Skippers Pier to Chesapeake Beach 8.2
Chesapeake beach to Lowe's Wharf 13.8
Lowe's Wharf to Harrisons 7.0
Harrisons to Turkey Point Marina 20.4
Total Miles 76.1

A complete detailed course map will be provided in the registration packet.

We are planning a radar run on the way back to the Hyatt as well. This will be a closest to your speed contest and not a speed contest. Those that choose to enter the radar run (sign-ups will be at the last stop for $25) will guess what their top speed will be over a 1 mile course and the closest to their guess will win. We did this last year and it was very popular.

If you are planning on staying the night at one of the local hotels we have two blocks of rooms set up but they will expire on 9/4 so get your entry in ASAP. If you have any questions feel free to send me an email smitty1035@comcast.net or PM Smitty1035.

Sign up this week before the price increase!

"Remember there will be a late fee for the Captain's package of $25 and $10 for the extra crew added after September 11th"

If we're starting from Turkey Point, is there a nice marina to overnight at on Friday night, or should we stay in Annapolis/on the Severn? Are there any (38') slips available at they Hyatt for Saturday night?

Chuck, Hope to see you and Diane on this trip ! I'll keep a lens and my eye out for you ! :sifone:

Call Turkey Point Marina and ask for Carl, Tell him you are part ofthe CBPBA and doing thepoker run. They will take real good care of you for this. They have ample slips as I keep my boat there. The bathrooms are top notch and a very quiet place. Call me if you need help.

It's gonna suck missing this!!! But they have rescue covered at the race and being in school working part time..fancy hotels are way out of my league.

****updates****

Please note that the last stop for the run has changed to:

Finish Line – Knapps’s Narrow Marina (www.knappsnarrowsmarina.com)
3:00 – 5:00 Pool Party sponsored by Turner Yacht Services. Hands can be played for those not continuing on to Cambridge and radar run sign-ups will be taken.

For anyone who is interested I am being told that they have room for overnight both in the marina and the Inn. If you are interested you can call them at 410-886-2720.

Also we are happy to announce that we will be adding a video production of the run free with every Captain's package. This will be done from both land and air and is being sponsored by Billy Bevard and MuddPuppy Racing.

Remember there will be a late fee for the Captain's package of $25 and $10 for the extra crew added after September 11th.

Signed up and paid through paypal this morning!! Let's hope the weather will cooperate for all of us. We are really looking forward to this run.

Question: Is there a place to keep the boats overnight in the water at the Hyatt when we return from the run, or will we need to put the boat back on the trailer?

Reserving a slip from the Hyatt is the only way to guarantee an overnight slip. If I had any left I would be happy to help you out, but my volunteers have filled our slips and have actually started a waiting list. We will allow boats to tie up in the same area the race boats do after the poker run, but that area is not for overnight since it has to be clear for race boats. I have no control over any dockage in the marina past what is donated to my volunteers, that is all on the Hyatt. PM me if you are pulling the boat out and I can give you some options.

not nec. the lone ranger... But I have choosen my priorities. Right now, it sucks to miss some stuff, but I am miising things so that I may put myself in a much better position to enjoy life in the future. Some suffering now and in a couple years I hope to have a house on the water and a newer bigger faster boat :)

The party is still on at the Hyatt for Friday and Saturday nights. But you are on your own for slips and rooms.

Does this eliminate the party at the Hyatt ???

No, the final party is still on for both poker runners and racers, volunteers, etc. Most of the cards will be played at the Hyatt but some people decided they may not be able to come to the Hyatt that evening, so they can play their hands at Knapps. The band is secured, the bar is ready, and the Hyatt is ready to go, so bring your party shoes, last year's party was great. Well, until the great golf cart heist anyway :willy_nilly::ack2:
