Cary 50 Spring Project

I was riding the Harley at the lake a few weeks ago and saw it sitting at Hammerhead?( arrowhead??) Had wondered earlier why it wasnt at E-Dock gate!

Thanks for the compliments everyone. They are great old boats with a cool history.

Mike, nice hearing from you. Hopefully, they will have it back in the water the first week of may.

Yours looks way to nice all buffed up. I spent all last season redoing the engines in mine. This year is interior and maybe paint work......so much fun!

what size props you running? I have 3 blade 17" and a set of 19". I would like something better for the big tank.

Was wondering if I was gonna have to call you. Engine room still looks good, but would look much better without that ugly dude in there....:sifone:

good hearing from you Hotrod. Star Dancer's engine room is the nuts!

I have 8 3 blade 19's and currently running the revolution 4 blade 19's. The revo's made a huge difference in slip. So much so, it highlighted my engine issues. hopefully, that will not be an issue after this project is completed.

If someone were to add Cary to the "By Brand" section then maybe the 5 of us owners will post some pictures. :)

Picture 1 is Star Dancer in Waukegan; took with phone on my way to close the deal on Double the Trouble. The bow in the foreground is also a Cary 50 but I forgot the name.

Picture 2 is the way God intended Cary's to be rigged - Diesels and ASD8's; I tried to buy the boat twice but in the end was too much of a project.

Picture 3 is also part of this spring's project. Replacing all of the rubber fuel line's with Stainless tube. Part of the problem I am having is the old fuel lines are delaminating. This in turn causes the fuel filters to clog up with this black cotton fiber junk. Which in turn causes the mixture to lean - well, you know the rest. See first post about 1 engine getting the full treatment.

All my lines are now aeroquipt stainless braided for the same reasons. Yes aresons are the way they should be built. What rpm do you turn at wot? I had to drop down to the 17 pitch to get to 5100.

When the mills are running right they will turn 4900 - 5000. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened much in the last few years. This delaminating problem was hard to diagnose and hurt stuff in the process. I never once considered it was the fuel line.

When you pull your engines do you completely remove the hatch or disconnect the rams and hoist the hatch far enough to clear an engine?

Now that's a engine room !!!! Here is a 43' Cary that was a Texas Hurricane Ike victim [this Cary sunk on the hoist] my brother won it on ebay last fall. I volunteered to help him, all I can say she going to need lots of love before she makes it out on Lake St Clair. Here are a few pics of how she looked when she made it to Michigan. That engine hatch must weigh 1000 pounds, a high low had to remove it. The 3engines & tranmissions were shot and need to be replaced, along with most of the equipment. The Arneson drives though seem to be fine, that was a big relief.
After showing my brother the pictures of the 50' Carys that were posted here he is all fired up on this project.
