•Another man was airlifted to Ryder following a snorkeling accident offshore of Marathon Sunday.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, 28-year-old Vinayak Devasthali was found floating about 2 p.m. near Sombrero Light six miles off Marathon by the crew of the Spirit snorkeling boat, which operates out of Marathon.

The crew reportedly pulled him from the water, started CPR and called the U.S. Coast Guard for assistance. The Coast Guard responded and brought the man into shore, continuing CPR.

Devasthali had been snorkeling from another snorkeling vessel, the Starfish, but was apparently left behind. The Sheriff's Office report says the Starfish crew heard the report of the snorkeler in distress and realized they were missing a passenger.

Paramedics met the Coast Guard and took the victim to Fishermen's Community Hospital. He was revived and airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit. Starfish Snorkeling did not return a call seeking comment.
