Bush @ Ft.Hood, Obama @ Camp David

No photo ops, no grandstanding, no comments--just a quiet comforting visit from former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura to Fort Hood, Texas.

After traveling to the base, which is about 30 miles from their ranch, the former first couple spent about two hours visiting the wounded before slipping away as unobtrusively as they arrived, specifically telling the base commander no press coverage according to Bill Sammon of Fox News.

A fine example to set. Except President Obama decided to take a break from passing health care reform and holiday at Camp David.

The worst terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11 and Obama can't even make it to Fort Hood to visit his wounded troops?

Time will show people that george Bush was a good president. Same as time has shown how bad FDR, Kennedy, Nixon and Carter were, However in my 46 years I have never been more ashamed of a President than I am now, the only consolation to it, is talking to the people that voted for him and listening to them say they regret voting for him.

I think that he cared deeply about the safty of the people of the US and would stop at nothing to make sure we did not get attacked like we did on 9/11. For that he was good and I think that he was also a very genuine guy that while people can relate to him they are so used to being lied to that they did not know how to deal with him. I think he was a very phiscally irresponsible person and that will always be his down fall especially as a Republican.

Shame on Obama!

Shame for what?

For not going and getting in everyones way to accomplish what???

A bunch of symbolism that you will all call a photo op.

The army must be up to its neck re helping families and investigating what happened. That base must be a zoo these days with activity not forgetting its a crime scene.

The last thing that place needs is The President landing in the middle of it all with his requisit entourage.

I think he has made it pretty clear that he feels terribly for these families.

You will probably find that the army agreed that he should not be there in the middle of all the turmoil.

And if Mr. Bush wanted to visit something he should have gone back to the devastation from Katrina that never got finalized.

Sorry...just me today. Jay's busy.:)

Fort Hood is quite capable of accomodating a visit from the sitting Commander in Chief.

Perhaps the soldiers were asked, and they preferred the former Commander in Chief.

:)

Obama is the commander in chief... so basically he is the ceo of the company.. The people under his watch f'd up and as result a nutcase in his employ started killing people.. It's his friggin responsibilty to be there.

The President and First Lady will be attending a memorial service at Ft. Hood tomorrow.

One of the largest military installations in the world must have worked all those pesky logistics out, Alec. :D

"Perhaps the soldiers were asked, and they preferred the former Commander in Chief."

Somehow I doubt it, since its because of him that some of them are packin their grip to go to Iraq.

I've worked at Ft. Hood, it's a huge complex, a city of over 50K with soldiers and family and civillians. It dwarfs the adjacent sh*t hole town of Killeen, Tx yet it took a civillian cop from Killeen to respond, drive onto the base and stop the killing by shooting the shooter.
The Army needs to look at their Military Police and figure out why they were so slow in responding. The M.P.'s are the only soldiers armed on that base except for some live fire training occuring out on manuver areas away from the main base.
I think that bothers the families of the dead more then who shows up afterwards.

I agree.

That and the fact this guy slipped through the cracks for past bunch of years, now that we hear there were numerous signs of odd behaviour.

I really hope we don't find out that his superiors were being "politically correct" and not wanting to "pick on him" because of his religion.

I kind of wondered that..a shooting at a military base, and of base local pd swat has to get called in?? base security anyone? this was one nutcase aremed with a handgun...what would a coordinated assault from an orginized intelligent enemy group achieve?

Yeah , he seemed to get away with a lot for the past EIGHT YEARS.

But thats nothing. Did anyone see the news where these Aholes were on the streets of NYC calling for the Death Of the USA ??

Standing in front of a mosque preaching their sh!t.

Such a shame that you cant just blow their heads off.

I am not making a statement about what they were chanting..but I am making a statement about there rights to do so. If you were a US citizen you have everyright to call them whatever you want, that being said, as a US citizen They have a constitutional right to say it. As a United States citizen, you do not have to respect what someone says, but you do have to respect their right to say it.

REALLY? Are you baiting me there Alec? :sifone: I unfortunately support their right to free speech and freedom from religious persecution. The same as I wouldn't want the "Tea Baggers" arrested or harmed for their views (although I suspect the current Admin and Congressional leadership wouldn't have a problem with that). But the government's first job is to protect us from enemies, both foreign and domestic. If it is found out that people had serious reservations about this guy and did nothing for fear of "insulting" him or CAIR, the we have a major problem.

Actually she was a civilian cop under contract to the base to provide the same duties that the M.P's are now providing in Iraq and Afghanistan.

She was on-base and on-duty when the incident occured.

She did an awesome job
