Boyne Thunder

Man, watching those videos makes me realize how much bigger an event this used to be. This past year was my first time and I don't recall any fair or bands or wooden boat show, etc...Just the couple boats on the street Friday night. Why has that stuff not continued? Just because attendance is down?

I would guess attendance being down is do to the economy, and the donations and advertising towards the event because of the economy has hurt also. The cool thing is the location and run is awesome, the rest of the stuff will comeback as the economy does.

Hopefully!!!:iagree:

I hope so too. Planning to return for next years run. One thing that might be hurting it, is the cost. Yes, I know we're talking about guys that own $100-600k boats, but it is by far the most expensive entry fee of any run we do. Yes the meals are good, but it's still a bit expensive. It's also quite a haul for most of us that attend. So you have 3-400 mile drive, 2 or 3 nights in a hotel plus $700-900 (depending on number of passengers) to enter the boat and a full tank of gas that will be burned on the run. So it's not cheap, compared to runs we do on St. Clair that are flat rate $100 per person and that includes meals. Yes, I know Boyne is supposed to be an attraction and is on a different level than the club runs that happen every weekend around the state. But, we could do 10 local St. Clair, Erie runs for what I spent on the Boyne run. Then, you never know what the water will be like once you're there. That being said, I will be back!

I'll talk to the weather gods next summer and get some flat water for us. Maybe Bill's boat won't break down and I work on it until 1a.m. the night before the run, it got in the way of the rum and coke's.

Found our :cheers2:way to the Ocean, had to wait for someone to get there boat off the road before we could get there!

You two talk nice, I think you two can solve this Jan. 9th with a good NASCAR race or maybe the boys have a boat race for the X-Box!

Hope this year is bigger than ever. I heard several participants comment that this was the best poker run they have ever attended
