Bottom Paint on a 43' Wellcraft Cruiser

Anyone have a ballpark on what it costs to paint the bottom on a 43' boat?

Specifically a Wellcraft Portofino.

$20-50/ft. depending on region, paint and how much prep

use ablative paint. you will need some where around 2 to 3 gal if it was never done before.
I use 2 gal on my 41 ft carver
it is messy but you can do it your self.

That is a 88-91 model so I'm thinking it's been painted before. Been years since I had cruisers but I used to paint them myself. It will use 2 gallons and if you put 2 heavy coats on (recommended) you could be into a 3rd gallon. Have it hauled and blocked to do yourself. It's not hard, a bit messy, and that's where all the $$$ is for the job. I always used the best paints I could since the labor effort was the same regardless....spent about $150/gal 10 years ago.

Painting again, the boat is a 1989 Model Wellcraft Portofino

depending on your budget use an Interlux product. Micron 66 is the best, but its also 250/gal.

Have to agree on the Micron 66 and go for 3 coats minuim 4 on the hi wear areas.That will buy you more time between halouts.

Its been a few years since I had a cruiser, but I specifically remember that there are bottom paints better than others depending on what type of water the boat was going to be sitting in ( ie brackish water ) so check into that before blindly putting on a brand or type.

and use Ablative paints that wear off over time!!!! also, I was told (not long before I sold my last cruiser) to paint the bottom with one coat of color, then several coats of black. Once the coats of black wear to the last coat of color it's much easier to see that it is time to re-paint.

painting the bottem is a picnic compared to sanding and prepping the bottem.unless you bead blast it. It took me about 18 hours split between 3 days to sand and prep my 38 footer...... couple hours to paint. NEVER AGAIN!!!

I was waiting for someone to come up with this response. We did a 34 Sea Ray that had a freshwater bottom paint already and the sanding and prep sucks but worth it for $2k or so. The bead blasting would probaby help but still had to sand the edges near the water line, tape it so it would look superb, and we unfortunately did it when it was about 100 degrees on a Saturday hangover morning!!!!
