Well, once again politics gets in the way of boating!

Don Aronow Memorial Marathon Race Around Long Island

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The United Nations General Assembly is in session and The Coast Guard has imposed a 25 knot speed limit on New York Harbor from the Throgs Neck Bridge to the Verazzano-Narrows Bridge due to the Security Council Meeting …Sept 18 - Oct 1.

I requested they let us run just a few boats by at speed …denied.

I requested parading from Manhasset Bay to the Statue of Liberty at 25 knots(ok) and then starting at the Statue heading to the Verazzano Bridge at speed…denied.

Tough political scene….so

We have postponed the Race for two weeks, until October 6th to comply with the Coast Guard Request
with a rain date of October 7, 2012.

So to be told the race is postponed for 2 weeks makes everything okay?

It was bad enough going over there, (spending good $ and time getting on a plane from London to NY) in 2010 to find 3 Competitors had turned up.

Sort it out.

I have to.

According to the Around Long Island Race website, the Coast Guard asked them to move the date.

Yeah, it's really tough for those who live a long way away and make plans, then the government closes the waterway to boats so the event cannot take place. Just because some guy from Iran is talking to some guy from the US.......:sifone:

Hope you are able to make the rescheduled event. That is definitely a race I want to run someday.....
