<laughing> You've been there!
Almost exactly how mine ran.
To answer Velocity Kid, Actually, the engine let go before the drive did.
A saying all engine builders know well, LEAN IS MEAN but not for long!
There is a certain spot on the course that is right in front of a cove, that always has a "hole" that is well known by anyone who has ever ran the Shootout. It is just before the radar guns, where you are at top speed and trimmed to that "inth" degree. then you hit the hole. No coincidence that the local photographer is always set in the same spot every year.
After 4 years of testing and beating on the orginal shorten Alpha with little over 640 hp, and a few hard nitrous passes, and lending it to differnt people so they could try it. I final had a upper gear failure. A part of the gear tooth broke off and took ever thing else out. Over the winter I came up with some new stuff for the upper and lower that should increase strength by 25%. Im going to up the HP this year to over 700 hp to see if it will handle it. Should be interesting.
Here are some pics of my old 22. It was known as the Joker back in the day. Mobilemercman would have a lot of info on this boat. He was the guy who rigged it. The boat lives in the Bahamas and was for sale on OSO but have not seen it for a while. This boat was awesome and took everything I put in thru and then some.
