My Sony KDS-R60XBR1 made a pop last night and the picture went blank, the sound shut off and the lamp indicator began to flash. I pulled the lamp out today and sure enough, the lamp exploded and sent the set into protected mode. I can get a replacement lamp assembly off ebay for around $120.00, but I'd like to do business with my fellow Serious members. The part number is XL-5100. Also from my service manual, the part number listed is 9-308-760-0.

Can you help a TV junkie out, LOL!

I called the store where I purchased the set, and they had the lamp in stock for $249.99+tax. I told them I can get one for $119.00 including shipping, on-line. They said "Well, have a nice day then". Hey Suess Electronics, what kind of customer service is that? They didn't even offer to drop the price to keep a customer happy.

Maybe for my next big TV purchase, I'll shop elsewhere.

They have to guarantee their unit.........the ebay unit is "buyer beware." A light bulb is fragile and quite fragile at 120 bucks!

I would not be to mad at the store. They were probably offering you a factory bulb. They are more money, sometimes a higher quality. The one you are going to get it most likely going to be an aftermarket one. I tell customers all the time I am not willing to do things for a certain price it is not that I don't want to help them out but there is a value on everything and if I cut them a deal then it snow balls.

Nope. Its the same OEM Philips lamp that originally came with my set. And the seller guarantees that.

Just so that you know OEM is different than factory. I can sell you fiber optic wire from Corning that is almost 1200 dollars per 1000 feet or I can sell you the same thing by Hitachi for 190 dollars per 1000 feet. Corning manufactures almost all fiber in this catagory. Same thing but not the same thing. Hope that is clear as mud
