496 tall deck

I have a big block Chevy tall deck (truck block) 496c.i./550 hp engine. What should my max RPM be? Single TRS drive.

I guess it depends om what valvetrain and other factors,,,what boat,,what prop ...

Safe, i say 5200-5400 with real good internals 7000

Sound right. Talked to builder, he said 5500-5800. Of course also depends on how long. Will turn over 6k, but you know. I'm thinking small rebuild to ensure what I've got.

If u have all BILLET parts, crank,rods,,coated bearings,,aluminum heads,,and good gaskets,,god valvetrain..JESEL,T&D or so with good stands..i say 6500 all day long !!!!!!!

It just depends on what u got in them !!!!!

With eagle or other rotating asmbl. i say stay under 5500.....
How i know..LOL,,,well thats a secret..haha

I hear ya. This engine is stong and has good internals, in fact the best...in 1985 Built by Gary at Carolina racing when worked for Hawk! Very low hours for an old motor, but still will need slight rebuild. I don't want to break it, so I 'll baby it for awhile, but not for too long!:driving:
