27-29 single engine boat

I have buddy looking for a 27-29' single engine boat with a useable cabin. He has a motor and outdrive to put on it but if its already got it and the price is right its a plus. He's looking at anything under $18,000. He likes the Fountain 29 but its not easy to find a single and the ones that are available are not in his price range. Anybody have any other recommendations other than a Fountain, Superboat, or Scarab for a single engine 27-29 footer that with 550hp can run low to mid 70's? Any help is appreciated.

Your biggest issue is you are a bit light on $ I think. Not for a no-power boat, but for one with power. The best deals out there, in that size (go up to 30' by the way), are probably the Formula's and Velocity's between 27' and 30'. But, if you bump that $18,000 up to just over $20,000, you can probably get into the 27 to 30 Powerquests.

Don't think it will go 70 without some upgrades. But a decent base to start with I believe.

How can you find the owner of a boat by using the registration numbers on the side? The 27 Fountain is under brokerage and I would like to talk to the owner himself to see if a deal could be worked out.

I have not figured out a way to do that, but the brokers should be kept in the loop somewhat. Maybe work a deal with both, depending on the brokerage percentage, they may be willing to drop it substantially if it is close to the end of the listing. Make them the offer you're thinking of and see if they will work with you. Good brokers should.

1998 Fountain 29 was set up for twins, burnt deck and cockpit, no motors or hardware of any kind.

I saw the fountain. I tried to talk him in to it but teh fire damage is a little scary. I also found a 96 sleekcraft in LOTO for a good deal. I have sent all listed so he can look at them. The 27 fountain at the broker is realistically worth about 15-18 not the 21 they are asking. I have contacted the broker and he is not willing to deal. Thanks
