Odd day at the OPA Englewood race today.
The first race was supposed to start at 10:00 AM. Smitty said it would get going on time because the boats were out setting buoys at that time, not have to wait until 11 like the day before. Guys were concerned because the water was much rougher than the previous day and they had to idle around out there for quite awhile while the buoys were finished being set on Saturday. Also there was rain in the forecast for early afternoon for the balance of the day. Well, the last buoy was finished being set at 11:03, the first race pace boat started the lineup for the start at 11:38.
They were quick to start the second race, it started at 12:09. Then there was a mishap with the Shoreline Plumbing, it almost sank, so the race was red-flagged. The restart of the second race didn't happen until 1:14. Not sure why yet, the boats idled around in the mill area for an hour. It wasn't because of towing the Shoreline Plumbing boat back in, maybe turtles or something?
By the end of the second race it started to rain, some boats from the third heat went out, but the downpour caused a cancellation to the balance of the event and they came hauling back in.
Not a good day for a World Championship final event. The guys who cruised in second and third on Saturday, waiting for double points Sunday, will probably be swearing until next years event...... :banghead:
