• When workers opened a wall at El Salvador Methodist Church at Grinnell and Virginia streets, they found a beehive containing more than 500 pounds of honey.

“Well," said Pooh, "what I like best," and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.”
 
This is funny, because most of what they tell you on the Conch Train is BS:rofl:

Key West Police Chief Armando Perez Jr. ordered all policemen to ride the Conch Train so they would know the history of the Island. Bill Kroll, owner of the train, said that the men in blue could ride free.

We looked at some places to possibly buy on Duck Key. There was one really sweet one on the northwest corner, (kind of), with a lot of rock walls inside the house. Including rock showers etc. It would be a tough one to keep clean!

• An empty gravel truck was apparently picked up by a waterspout and turned around and dropped on the shoulder of U.S. 1 on Big Pine Key. The driver and truck were not hurt but heavy equipment was needed to put the truck back on the highway.

• Six Key West police officers rode the Conch Train as part of the chief's plan to train all the officers on the historical points of interest on the island

• An armed expedition against Cuba failed when the attempt to launch the boat ended with the truck in the water. Three men were arrested with ammunition and guns.

A heavily armed Cuban helicopter landed at Key West International Airport without being detected by the maze of radar installation ringing the island.

• "Escape From Hell Island," the revised Key West-produced movie had its world premiere in Miami at a Wometco theater. The film was originally titled "Man in the Water.

Key West was working to reduce the budget because of a drop in cigarette money because of the government's warning about cigarettes and cancer.

A Navy helicopter rescued a man and woman when their 36-foot fishing boat sank 46 miles southwest of Key West.
 
Sheriff Henry Haskins warned that the spring was bad check season and that Monroe County businesses lost nearly $50,000 in 1963.
