1996 Dually 454

MILD THUNDER

New member
Looking at a 1996 dually 4x4 crew cab. 75k miles, no rust. West coast truck. 454 with 4l80e trans. Will be pulling a 38 Fountain. How will this truck tow? Not too concerned with mpg, and not looking to win any races while pulling the boat. Just want decent power and good stability. Also, whats a good price to pay for a truck like this? its clean. Was used to pull a horse trailer.

great, U WILL NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PULLING, But a diesel would actually win in MPG..LOL:sifone:

I hear these years dont have the best braking system? Is this true? is there a upgrade like a rear disc conversion? Or is it just a poor hydraulic system?

Mine is a 1996 Suburban and i have NO problems, but they do make a disc conversion for it !!!!!:cheers2:

The HDs are the better of any of them. They have a HydroBoost brake system which is hydraulic assist vs. the vacuum boost system on the 1500s (which totally sucks).

I HIGHLY advise electric/hydraulic trailer brakes for ANY boat towing application. The difference is NIGHT and DAY vs. surge breaks.
