1080p DLP

I know that the Plasma vs LCD debate rages in another thread, but what about DLP?

I am looking to replace my huge Mibsubishi 55-inch rear-projection TV. I don't need the slim profile of a plasma or LCD, so I am looking at the cheaper DLP models.

I.E. a Mitsubishi - 60" 1080p DLP HDTV for $1000.

Any thoughts?

My brother in law just picked up the dlp,,,,, I mean its ok,,,,, but not side by side with an lcd.

grainy, and blocky with the graphics

Smaller sizes like 42" the cost of a plasma up front is higher but a DLP bulb replacement could offset that.

60"- $1K vs $3K is worth going DLP if space/wall hanging is not an issue IMHO.

Another thing people forget in general is the furniture that may be needed around a TV. My 1st plasma cost were offset buy not having to buy the entertainment center and keeping that square footage of my house useable.

A friend has the 65 Mitsu DLP and has replaced the bulb 2 times in the last 4 years and then it just went BOOM! He replaced it with a Samsung LCD.

I have a 65" mitsu DLP Diamond series and love it. It has an awesome picture and haven't had a single issue. I have a samsung LCDas well, and DLP definately has a better picture.

I have had a 52 JVC HD DLP for 4 years. One bulb but the thing prolly has 6ooo hours use on it. Kid uses it to play vid games, wach movies and cartoons :) Great picture. Not grainy at all. HD stuff looks amazing.

After doing more research, I am going to keep my 55-inch 1080i Mitsubishi for another year. I rarely rent/buy DVD's, so I don't need a Blu-ray player.

I mostly watch High-Def programs like sports and PPV movies. Until DirecTV starts providing 1080p content, I really don't need a 1080p HDTV set.

Thanks!

The new Mits DLP's are nice. The pic quality (now) is quite good. You will be replacing bulbs and they are pricy. But then the inital cost vs size is cheap.
It is a nice solution and I recommend it.
