Only 40lbs oil pressure after re-build.

Hook up a mechanical guage and see if it agrees. Have you changed the oil and filter since break in?

Merc 540 575hp build heads cam ect..?

The tube tops are great headers for that motor. If you are willing to turn some RPM (6000ish) they will likely out perform the manifolds.

    Cam Timing question

The retainer plate on the front and the cam on the back.

    E85 instead of racing fuel

Are they using E85 from the pump or from a drum? I have considered this but ultimately chose not to because I hear the mass produced E85 available from the pump is very inconsistent in terms of octane and alcohol content. Plus depending on who you talk to E85 from the pump has an actane...

    Michigan City SBI race

Is it too late for you to enter the race? With that schlep racing tune and all I think it would be interesting. Put Serafin Saccenti on the sticks and hold on!:driving:

Am I choking my 588ci? Need Doms?

Easy to put a slip collar on those distributors. Put them in a lathe and cut the collar off and buy a slip collar. Also a lot of the newer intakes have already made the adjustment for a standard length dist. My Dart TR uses a standard length dist with the tall deck. I found out after I spent...

Am I choking my 588ci? Need Doms?

Thought for next year. Have Bob set you up with a couple of Darrin Morgan ported TR's and go to 2-Domis and watch the speedo go past the century mark!! You're right these big motors need to breathe. Congrats on the results!:cheers2:

    Amsoil?

I'm just curious as to why a 50wt oil is so highly recommended in the marine arena? I'm going to run Amsoil 10W40 in my 600" mill and I feel it will be more than adequate. If your oil temps are less than 230*, and the clearances in the motor are correct I personally don't see the need to push...

    Help Me Pick A Cam...

Bob is not going to try to sell you a cam if what you have will temporarly fit the bill until better exhaust can be purchased. If it will work he will likely tell you to run it. I will say this it is way cheaper to buy the correct parts now so you can desgn your ultimate motor. I understand...

    spark plugs

Assuming its a relatively normal marine pumped gas blower motor you probably need -8's. If its relatively nasty with a solid roller, high RPM and high boost you may need -9's. You really need to do plug checks to verify the proper timing, A/F ratio and heat range. Also I personally do not...

post your top speed for your Baja

I no longer own the boat, but thought the vid was appropriate. 1990 210 ESS with a fairly nasty NA 496. Best top end I ever saw was 98.6. Put the boat back to stock before selling.:driving: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL5cyKdWnF0

    Lock timing or no?

With that large of cam in a small CI low comp motor and a small blower I'm thinking that it would really like the extra timing down low. I've seen everything from NA 350's, NA 632, 598, 604, 8:71 roots 509, 565, 598 chilled and un chilled, blow thru 565, etc run with the timing locked and never...
