If a person wants a natural finish on the bottom, then Artie's right. However, epoxy stands up very poorly in strong UV, so it'll have to be replaced pretty frequently. I suppose a longer lasting solution is to use a penetrating epoxy, followed by several coats of varnish w/large amounts of UV...

Lots of UV inhibiters is very important. There's a difference in brands on this point. It's been too many years to make a reccomendation.

GM type? I suppose you could add a pressure gauge somewhere. I think the static pressure is around 50 PSI and the peak is around 1,000 PSI (like at the end of the stroke) or what ever your relief valve is set at. Of course a faulty relief valve could be the cause of a failure too.

So while this is still going on, what would be the best way to spend $5K on a 496, or a 502 for that matter? I know CRC, and I tried to discourage him from going the route he went. I suspected the results he got were what would happen. So, back to my question.....how could $5K be better spent...
